' His f athe r wa s Nemrat, who was the son of the lady M eh etemwask he, d ied a nd Shoshenq asked the king at tha t tim e to allo w a fu nerar y cult to be built at Abydos i n hi s honor. Th e king m ust ha ve been the last Psusenne s of t he Twenty-fi rst Dynas ty. Sho shenq's son had marri ed Psus ennes' daught er, Makare . It i s possible that th e transit ion from the T wenty-firs t to th e Twenty-secon d Dynasty w as a peaceful o ne. Shoshen q's wife , Karoma , was the moth er of Osorko n I who was Shos henq's su cces sor. Shoshenq d id considerab le building at ho me in Egy p t. He added a ne w colonnaded f orecourt with a tr iumpha l gat e that forme d an extension o f the hypostyle hal l i n the Amu n temple . No work had bee n done at Karnak sin c e the end o f the N ineteenth Dynasty . He also had a suc cess ful campaig n aga inst the kingdom o f Judah and the k ingdo m of Israel. H i s tomb is located a t Tanis.
