Merit-Amon was the wife of Amenhotep II during the 1 8 t h D y nasty. She was the daughter of Tuthmosis III an d Me ry t-Re '- Hatshepsut. She is shown on reliefs at Dei r el-B ahr i wit h h er father. Her cartonnage mask is loca ted i n th e Egypti an M useum in Cairo. It is prized for i ts bea uty a nd workma nship . The daughter of Yuia, a pri e s t o f A khmin, and Tuia, a servant of the queen , Mutem wi ya , Ti y li kely married Amenhotep while he was a princ e . Sh e is b eliev ed to have been only 11 or 12 years ol d a t th e time o f th e marriage.. She was intelligent an d dil igent , the fir st qu een of Egypt to have her name o n offi cial a cts, inclu ding t he announcement of the king 's marr iage t o a foreig n princes s.

After giving birth to Akhenaten and a number of royal d a u g h ters, Tiy urged her oldest daughter, Princess Sitam u n , t o m arry the king. It is believed that she did th i s i n orde r t o ensure royal heirs to the throne

Amenhotep III built a pleasure palace for Tiy and f o r t h e m embers of the royal family at Malkata, on the w es ter n s hor e of Thebes. 'Ahmo se w as t h e mothe r of four royal children and is depicte d o n the r el iefs a t Deir el-Bahri as consort to the go d Amo n.
