John's birthplace is unknown; however, I believe that he was born in Maury County, Tennessee as was his first wife, Kizsiriah. John Bomer was a farmer and a livestock man and was said by some to have practiced veterinary medicine.
Their first two children were born in Maury County prior to the families move to Hico, Kentucky (Calloway County) in 1856-1858 where they remained until after 1860. By 1870 they moved to Clear Spring, Kentucky in Graves County. They remained there until about 1880 when they moved to Benton, in Scott County, Southeast Missouri.
Although John was illiterate, Kizsiriah could read and write. She was said to have been very active in the Presbyterian Church and may have taught religion.
Four sons and one daughter moved to Texas and made their homes in the vicinity of Athens and Tyler. Those that moved were: John Crittenden Bomer, Gidian J. Piller Bomer, George Jefferson Bomer, and Verona (Verdia) [ Bomer ] Matney. Their descendants now live throughout Texas, in New Mexico, and in Colorado.
Two sons and one daughter remained in Missouri. They were: James Fredrick Bomer (James' son 'Pompey John' eventually moved to Colorado), Asa Bain Bomer, and Virginia Tennessee Bomer (married James Hutchason).
One son remained in, or returned to, northwestern Tennessee. William Wesley Bomer has many descendants in and around Henry, Carroll, and Weakley Counties, and in Ohio.
After Kitty’s death John Alin remarrie, about 1890, at Benton, Missouri to Sarah [O'Dell] Hand. There were three children by this marriage: Clayton (Claty) Bomer, Cynthia Mullen Bomer, and Minnie Mae Bomer. The only child to survive to adulthood was Cynthia. Her descendants live throughout Missouri
John Alin Bomer's date of death is uncertain. His tombstone is marked 27 June 1904, it is entered in the Family Bible as 27 June 1894 (proven incorrect), and court records of Scott County, Missouri suggest it may have been before 1902. He was not enumerated with his second wife, Sarah Hand Bomer in the 1900 census.
John Alin and Kizsiriah are buried in the Pollard Cemetery, 6 miles East of Benton, Missouri.

General Notes for Child Luther Bomer
According to Charity Bomer's family Bible, Luther was born in Benton, Missouri on 20 February, 1893.
Luther moved to the Athens, Texas area as a teenager. His son, Willie (Bill) Bomer related this story of Luther's arrival in Texas:
“When dad arrived at the train depot in Athens, he went outside and looked around. He came back inside and asked the ticket agent 'Where are all the cowboys and Indians.”
Luther and Charity always said that they were married on Friday the thirteenth; however, their marriage license, as recorded in the Henderson County courthouse in Athens, Texas shows that the license was obtained on Thursday, 7 August, 1913 and William Davis certified that he performed the marriage ceremony on Wednesday, 20 August, 1913. J. J. Bradshaw, the County Clerk, certified that the license was filed on Thursday 14 August, 1913 and recorded on Monday, 18 August, 1918.
In view of the County Clerk's entry, I feel that they were, in fact, married on 13 August, and that the minister made a mistake in reading the calendar as 20 August, which was the same day, one week earlier. However, none of these days fall on a Friday.
Luther worked as a sharecropper near Palestine, in Anderson County Texas, and later as a boilermaker for the Missouri-Pacific Railroad until he suffered an injury. After his recovery, he and his family moved to Houston, Texas where he worked in the shipyards, and later for Coast Paint and Lacquer.
Although I remember Luther as a kind, generous, and religious man he is said to have been quite a 'rounder' in his younger days and handed out discipline with a quick temper and a strong hand.
During my research in 2000 I was surprised to see a forum query from someone looking for information on Luther, my grandfather. It turned out that he was also the Great Grandfather of the person sending the query. So I found, and welcomed, a new branchof the Bomer family that had been lost for too long. I added what data I have to this database but hope to acquire more from our cousin Lara Kidd and her family.
General Notes for Child James S. (Jim) Bomer
Jim's Probate Court Record of Birth, is on file in Volume 6, Page 1, Henderson County Probate Birth Records, Athens, Texas. This document indicates that he was born in Charlston, Mississippi County, Missouri on 1 January, 1897 at 10:00 PM and was swornto by his mother, Rhoda Ann [Henson/Bomer] Alford, and Edd Ward, in April of 1942. The records of Scott county Missouri show his birth date as 31 December, 1896.
Jim's son, James Fredrick Bomer related the following story: Jim Bomer worked in a shoe shop in Popular Bluff, MO. James was ill, and wouldn't eat. The doctor told Jim and Sallie to move to a different climate for James' health. They then moved to Texas, in the vicinity of Athens. When they arrived, James said he was hungry and ate a bottle of ketchup. He ate well until he died.
