They were Quakers of New Garden and Montgomery Col, later. Robert b. 1717 m. Rachel Edge, resided in E. Caln, and were members of Uwchlan Meeting. Robert was a minister, Rachel an elder. His son Robert m. Ann Bond; Robert's son m. Jun 23 1811 ELIZABETH DOWNING, and thei daughter Anna is the wife of Jacob Edge, of Caln Township. George, another son of Robert and Ann, m. Was owner of Iron works in Maryland, and came to Centre county, PA, shortly after the war of 1812, where he was joined by his brothers, Abram, George, Bond and Jacob, and thes five brothers together with William A. Thomas, of Bellefonte, purchased at ths early day the furnace property, south of Bellefonte, ore lands and farms, so long in the possession of the Valentine family, and known as the Valentime properties. "History of Centre County, Pennsylvania", page 228: " VALENTINE, Bond, Esq., was born in Chester County, and came to Centre County in 1815 with his brothers, and together engaged in the manufacture of iron. Bond was admitted to the bar, and represented Centre County in the Legislatures of 1830-32. He retired from the practice of law in 1842, and was during hs latter years a public friend. As a lawyer, Judge Linn says of him, he had acquired a clear and intimate acquaintence with the principles of his professio ,ad was especially distinguished for his poer of oratory. He had a remarkable command of language, and his addresses to the court and jury were distinguished not only by mature thought, but also by the happiest choice of words and modes of expression.
"He was twice married, first to Miss Fairlamb, who died in 1843; subsequentl to Julia Thomas, who still survifes him. He died very suddenly; he was espeically interested in Judge Hale's election to Congress, and was at the telegraph-office as late as ten o'clock making inquiry of the result, and died at two o'clock Wednesday morning, Oct. 15, 1862. His only son is Robert Valentine, now at the head of the firm of Valentines & Co., of Bellefonte."[Downing.ged]
