Obituary of Amyntus Briggs

Amyntus Briggs, whose death was noticed in the Republic of May 5th, was born in Fairfield, Franklin Co. VT Sept. 26, 1802. Hew was the youngest of 13 children of Josiah and Eunice Briggs; was married to Mary Osbourne, April 21st, 1821. Removed to Rome, Oneida Co., New York, in 1833. His wife died Dec. 20th 1849, leaving him 13 children. He was married to Miss Emily Jane Dunham, Feb. 10th, 1850, and in 1854 came with his family to Newport, where he resided since.

In 1822 he gave his heart to Christ and joined the First Baptist Church in Fairfield. When he removed to Rome he united with the same church there by letter and so when he came to Newport brought a letter and united with the church here. When Newport broke up he united with the church in Delton, where he remained until it disbanded, when he went to Kilbourne City, where he was an active member until his death at age 83yrs, 7 m and 3 days.

Thus ends the life of one of Sauk county's earliest setters; a true and noble christian, a loving husband and father, who will be greatly missed by his large circle of friends and acquaintances. He was father of 22 children, 17 of whom are living, who, with his beloved wife, deeply mourn his loss.
