1. William Brockman was a Revolutionary War soldier who lived in Orange co.,
VA and died in Boone co., KY in 1812. 2. He moved to KY about 1806-1810. 3. Elizabeth was his first cousin; a daughter of William and Elizabeth
Brockman. 4. Miss Vella Good of Frankfort, IN furnished the William Brockman Bible
record that was published in the Hoosier Genealogist. She descended from
Eleanor (Nelly) Brockman who married Moses Brockman. They settled in
Clinton county, IN in 1828. Their daughter, Susan, married Elijah Rogers
in 1816; their son, Moses, married Sally Ann Wainscott in 1844; their
daughter, Florida, married George M. Good, the father of Vella Good, in
1882.

1. There is no actual proof as to the identity of Henry Brockman's wife. She
has been identified as having been Rebecca Salmon and Rebecca Samuell; also
as Mary. Mary is probably the strongest suggestion since she was known to
be the mother of Samuel (I) Brockman! On the other hand, Mary may have
the name of a second wife. 2. Also, she could have been Mary Rebecca or Rebecca Mary Samuell. 3. Did she marry after the death of Henry? If she did marry again could her
husband have been a Pettis or Pettus?

1. Henry and Susannah Brockman are buried in the family cemetery at the
Brockman homestead, about midway between Spartanburg and Greenville, and
not far from Reidville, SC.
The inscription on his flat burial stone reads as follows:
"Sacred to the memory of HENRY BROCKMAN of Greenville District of SC. He
was born in Virginia on the 18th day of Dec., 1761 and departed this life
on the 11th day of April, 1835. Having lived out his threescore and ten
years. He was permitted to depart in peace. He was a member of the
Baptist church for 50 years and a deacon of the same for 40 years. Was
never called to account for any offence either in church or state and the
only Epitaph he wished inscribe on his tomb was here is a good old man."
(copied from the Pinckneyh Dist. Chap. Quarterly 17(2):65 (1993)). 2. Moved to VA from SC about 1790-95. He was a planter and owned slaves. 3. His will was dated 19 Jul 1834 and is on record in the Probate Judge's
office at Greenville, SC., Book B:135-136; it was proved 20 Apr 1835. The
will shows him to have been a man of substance. (Scrapbook, p. 251) 4. His wife was his cousin and she was also sister to Mary Patterson who
married Henry's brother, Major Brockman. 5. Tallulah Brockman Bankhead, the famous movie actress, comes from this family
line (Henry Brockman > Thomas Patterson Brockman > James Henry Brockman >

1765 and departed this life in the Greenville District of SC on the 11th of
June 1812. She joined the Baptist church in early life and was truly
pious. Always ready to instruct and administer to the wants of others. She
was afflicted through life but never complained. Her last words were I am
ready to depart and be with my savior. Blessed are the dead that die in
the Lord. Yea saith the spirit they rest from their labours and __?__ do
follow them."

1. He was engaged in the merchantile business his whole life and was also a
large planter and slave owner. He settled on the Enoree River between
Greenville and Woodruff, SC. 2. For many years he was a militia officer and commanded the lower regiment of
Greenville District, SC. 3. He was a member of the SC Conventions of 1832 and 1852 and, for a long time
he was a member of the SC House of Representatives and Senate. 4. He was a deacon of the Baptist Church. 5. Had 11 children:
