1850 Census report shows him living with Lewis' widow Julia Brown,andhe was age 15.
One of the Executors of Lewis' Will was William L Keith.
Box 1 No 16, Probate Judge Office, Pickens Co, SC on Oct 13,1843.Lewis Brown, Daniel Durham are bound to James Dendy, ord in thesum of$200.00. Lewis Brown gurdian for Lewis Brown Griffin, minorunder theage of 14. Lewis Brown Grandfather states that he has raisedLewis BGriffin from an infant who was the son of Benjamin Griffinwhose wifeFrances Brown before marriage is dead. On Mar 4, 1848 JuliaBrown wasthe widow of Lewis Brown now deceased ask that W L Keith beguardianfor said minor.
Information provided by John Powell, a descendent, indicates thatLewisB Griffin was later adopted by his uncle Barton Griffin, of LeeCounty,Miss. After his marriage to Mary Moody, they lived in St.Clair County,AL. This information opens up a lot of questions andassumptions. Forexample his mother, Florence, must have been sickfor some time and wascared for by her father who also took care ofthe child. His fatherwent to Alabama and later remarried. LewisGriffin was an heir to hisgrandfathers 1000 acre farm. What happenedto the farm, is this theone identified in his Uncle Samuel's LastWill and Testament?
