From the Neosho Times, Neosho, Missouri, Thursday, May 18, 1942:
Isaac Lewis Grainger, 84 years old, long-time citizen of Senecan and well known over the county, died at his home there at 10:45 o'clock Saturday night, after an illness of many months.
Funeral services were conducted at 4 o'clock Tuesday afternoon (23 May 1942) at the Swars Prairie Baptist Church near Seneca. The rites were in charge of Rev. C.E. Befgen, district Missionary of the Shoal Creek Baptist Association, and Rev. R.W. Forbes, pastor of the Seneca Baptist Church. Burial was in the cemetery near this church under the direction of the Buzzard Funeral Home.(Swars Prairie Baptist Cemertery, South of Seneca, Newton co., Missouri)
Mr. Grainger was a stockman and farmer all of his life until advancing years made hard work impossible for him. He was a member of the Republican party and was active in its interests. In 1908, he was elected judge of Newton County Court and served two terms. Sometime later, he was appointed truant officer and county welfare officer. He was a man of fine character and was honest and conscientious in all of his dealings, both public and private. Men in both parties, as well as neighbors and acquaintances all over the diestrict, esteemed him highly.
Surviving besides his widow, Mrs. Mary Ann Grainger, are one daughter, Mrs. Cora Mailes, Seneca Rout 1; three sons, John A. Grainger of Sececa, former Newton County Collector, Lee Grainger of Neosho Rout 4 and Orval Grainger of Secneca Rout 2; 25 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. *********************************************

Death of Mrs. I.L. Grainger
Anna Jane Bryant was born in Johnson County, Missouri, in 1857, and died 30 Jan 1933, at her home on Swars Prairie, south of Seneca. In 1878, she was married to I.L. Grainger and moved with her husband to Newton County, where she had since resided. She is survived by her husband, three sons, John, Lee and Orville Grainger, and one daughter, Mrs. Cora mailes, one sister, Mrs. Nevada Adams of Kansas City, one brother, Edward G. Bryant of Seattle, Washington, 25 grandchildren. Funeral Services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Swars Prairie Baptist church, of which she was a consistent member. Services were conducted by the Rev. C.H. Jent, assisted by Rev. J.M. Campbell and the Rev. H. Holt. burial was in the Baptist cemetery (Swars Prairie Baptist Cemetery, South of Seneca, Mo.) with the Buzzard undertaking company in charge. *******************************

Mailes-Grainger
Louis Mailes and Miss Cora Grainger were united in marriage at the home of the bride's parents, I.L. Grainger and wife on Swar's Prairie, Sunday, Rev. Lundey officiating. After the wedding ceremony, a grand dinner was served to the following guests: Mrs. A.H. Mailes, Misses Belle Williams, Sadie Williams, Nannie Lankford, Ada Buzzard, Leona Hopper, Nancy Kellhoffer, Bertha and Leah Norris, Clara Thompson and Ethel Mitchell. Messers Jack Hopper, Kick Kellhoffer, Norman Lankford, Edward Winn, Lee Grainger, Luther Moore and Orville Grainger.
Mr. and Mrs. Mailes were the recipients of a number of handsome presents. they will go to housekeeping in about two weeks. the Hustler extends congratulations and wishes them a happy and prosperous journey through life.

Cora A. Mailes, 11 Apr 1884 - 24 Jul 1979 Cora A. Mailes, 95, Seneca, died at the Neosho Senior Center today at 1:45 a.m. after a long illness. Mrs. Mailes was born 11 Apr 1884 near Warrensburg, Mo. She was a member of the Seneca Church of Christ.
Surviving are six sons, Lloyd, Lawrence and Leonard, all of Seneca, Lilburn, North Little Rock, Ark., Lyndall, Miami, Oklah and Loren, Cave Junction, Oregon; five daughters, Mrs. Laveta Higgenbotham, Mrs. Lucille Wilson and Mrs. Lenora Garman (paper spelled name incorrectly, should be Leora), all of Seneca, Mrs. Letha Dagley, Joplin and Mrs. Lorena Hoover, Miami; 29 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren, and two great - great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. thursday in the Seneca Church of Christ. Elmer Shackelford will officiate. Burial will be in the Seneca Cemetery under direction of the Campbell-Biddlecome Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be harold Mailes, David Montgomery, Ronald Mailes, Stanley Wilson, Lennie Mailes and Howard Hoover.
The family will be at the home of Lloyd Mailes, Rout 1, Seneca. *********************************************
