VIII. Robert Robinson, son of John and Mary, was born June 10, 1734.He married before 1744, Lucretia Abernethy(?), Lunenburg County,Virginia. "John Robinson and Mary, his wife, to son, Robert, for loveand good will" deed "three tracts of land (506 acres) on Indian Creek," March 23, 1773. James and Frances Mitchell(6), witnesses. Recorded1774. (Vol. K, p. 74.) Granville County. This land on Indian Creek issold by Robert Robinson to Frederick Wiggins on August 21, 1779.Lucretia, the wife of Robert Robinson, relinquishes right of dower.Deed recorded November, 1779, witnessed by Isham Harrison and JohnFleming. (Vol. 0, pp. 1-2.)
On August 2, 1779, Robert Robinson conveyed the remainder of his landsin Granville County to Thomas Person, Arthur and George Jordan andothers, and left the state for Fairfield County, Camden District,South Carolina. The first census of that county, 1790, shows that he with his family is then living there. His service in theWar of the Revolution is proved by "stub entries to indents forRevolutionary service." (Salley, pp. 112-306, 1781-82.) Certificate ofpay for Militia duty in Revolutionary War, No. 350, 80-81 (Vol. N.) State House Records, South Carolina.
Robert Robinson died in Edgefield County, South Carolina, in 1802 (or1803) as proved by Elisha Robinson's receipt for his share of hisfather's estate. Robert Robinson's Will has not been found and it isnot believed that he made one, but distributed much of his propertyamong his children before his death. Record of administration on his estate is filed at EdgefieldCounty(7).
Robert Robinson and Lucretia had children:
1. Richard, moved to Alabama. 2. Allen, married Miss Chapman of Baldwin County, Georgia. Died Morgan County. (Will there) 3. Isham, married Mary Wilson; died 1824, Edgefield County. 4. Elisha, died Edgefield County. (Will recorded). 5. Thomas, married Sally Lewis, Butts County, Georgia. 6. Randall, married, first, Lydia Walker; second, Phereby Hill. 7. Frances, died unmarried. 8. Penelope, married William Whitlock, Madison, Florida.
Of the sons of Robert and Lucretia Robinson, Richard, Thomas, Allenand Elisha, lived at the time of the first census in Edgefield County,Ninety-Six Distriet, South Carolina. Several of Robert Robinson's sonswere soldiers in the Revolution and Richard died at the close of the War, according to records in the State House,Columbia, South Carolina.
Robert Robinson's widow, Lucretia Robinson, survived her husband until1819. The records of Hardy's Meeting House, now North Augusta, showthat she died in that year. According to old family papers the Robinsons lived near Campbellton,which was near North Augusta. The sons acquired land located onStephen's Creek. Deeds following describe these tracts:
"Allen Robinson, planter, leased for a year from Elisha Robertson,November 28, 1771, plantation on south side Stephen's Creek, waters ofSavannah River, 96 District (150 acres) originally granted to ElishaRobinson, November 28, 1771; also, tract granted April 2, 1773, landadjoining above tract on Stephen's Creek (100 acres) and surveyed forJames Muse May 4, 1756, and granted to Berry Horn August 27, 1765."(Vol. ------ , pp. 28-34.) Served in Revolutionary War. Robert Robinson had land atpresentWilliamsboro, Vance Co, NC where his son Allen was probablyborn about1765. In about 1779 he moved to Camden Dist, SC, and wasthere in the1790 census.
