Death: in a house fire at about age 12; an oil can exploded as she was pouring
kerosene on kitchen stove. Three smaller siblings were playing in the
yard, her mother was in the house. Lloyd Ross, Jr. (16) made a herioc
rescue of Betty just before the roof collapsed. Betty died 4.5 hours
later in a hospital.
