(I know the marriage record looks like NC but I believe it's a fancy VA.)His parents were Samuel Bugg and Elizabeth Bilbo who were married in Mecklenburg Co. Va., and migrated to Henderson Co. Ky. They died there but Sherwood with first wife Rosanna (Long) moved to Hickman Co. Ky. about 1823. Rosanna died Dec. 17, 1856 in Bayou du chein, Hickman, according to vital stats. Their children were; Jonathan b.1822 married 1st.Mary Ann Jones, 2nd.Elizabeth Grey. Catherine E. b.1825 married Nathan G. Ross. Samuel Green b.1827 married Letitia A.M. Hardin, Rosanna Jane b.1832 married Christopher C. Jackson, James R. b.1830-32 married Luvinda (last name unk.). Martha Ann b.1836 married James Mastin Stephens(my line). [Leip.ged] The 1840 Cenus gave Frederick's age as 10-15. The 1850 Census gave his age as 21 and born in Germany. Fulton/Hickman Genealogical Journal Winter 1998 p.29 Obion County Clerk's Minutes on page 102 Nicols Leap was a hand to the overseer on Moscow Road from Schuck's old place to state line. Frederick Leak was also a hand. Minutes of 4 Nov 1850. Fulton/Hickman Genealogical Journal 1987 Vol III No. 2 1860 Fulton Co. Census,page 54 July 12: 350 Leah, Frederick, 28, m, 0, 300, Ger; Ellen 25, f, TN. The 1870 Census gave Frederick's age as 42 and the he was born in Baden, Germany. Ellen F. as 44 and born in Virginia. The children were Mary S. 9, James A. 8, Barbara E. 2 and Magdaline two months. All the children were born in Kentucky. The 1880 Census list Frederick as 52 years of age and lived in Lodgetown district, Fulton Co., KY. Tax Lists Fulton Co. 1857 Fred Leip had no land, 2 horses or mules, Total $80. He was not listed 1855, 56, 58 through 63. 1864 Fred Leip had 1 horse, 1 mule, 2 cows, 1 enrolled in the militia, 400 bushel of corn, Total $100. 1867 Fritz Leip 75 acres, 1 horse, 9 cows, 1 hog, 500 bushel of corn, 50 bushel of wheat Total $800. Fritz's third wife was Lucy Taylor. Thelma L. Leip Martin didn't think Ellen and Lucy were related. Actually Lucy's first husband was related to Ellen. After Ellen died in 1881 and Fritz married Lucy, James said he would hear Lucy telling his father that James should leave home. When James told his father he was going away his father said no, that James was there first. James left telling his father that he had married her he would have to live with her. James went to live with his father's aunt, Barbara. He lived with her and helped on her farm until he purchased his sisters' share of his father's farm when Fritz died in 1893. Fritz is buried in cemetery at Harmony Methodist Church. His grave marker indicates that he came to Kentucky in 1840. Actually he and his parents came to the U. S. in 1840 and first settled in Obion Co. TN. They moved up to Fulton Co. , KY most likely in 1855 or 56.
