Her name was Lizzie Hammond, but she married her first husband as Lizzie Hamilton.
After their death my aunt Lizzie left her husband (Reese B. SMITH) and it was rumored that she went to AL. But I have not been able to track her down at all. It is possible that she went back to useing the name Lizzie HAMILTON again, I really don't know.
But not to confuse you... my aunt Lizzie's real birth name was actually HAMMOND and not HAMILTON. My aunt was only in the orpahanage for about 1 month in 1914 in Atlanta,GA. at the time Lizzie was 13 being born in 1900 in TN. Lizzie was in and out of foster home's so much till she married at the age of 15 to Reese B. SMITH. Somehow she married under the name HAMILTON, but it is my guess that that was as close to HAMMOND as she could get, or since she was the oldest of the 4 children she knew her real birth name, and the orphanage records had it wrong. I honestly don't know which, but my father and his other 2 sibling's (all younger than Lizzie) went by the name HAMMOND through the years. I know for a fact that this was Lizzie because the records I recieved from the orphanage on my father stated that she married Mr. Reese SMITH in Feb. 1916 in Douglas Co. GA. That's how I found her marriage cert. and seen that she went by HAMILTON.
You see my grandfather J.H. HAMMOND left my grandmother Mary ?? and the 4 children at a shelter in Atlanta,GA. and it was said that he just disappeared. My grandmother had no choice but to place the 4 children in a orphanage. She remained at the shelter doing domestic work. I have not been able to find my grandparent's nor do I know the dates on either, and I do not know my grandmother's full name at all, other than Mary HAMMOND.
This family came from TN. to Atlanta,GA. either in 1913 or before Jan. 10th 1914. I have located my father's brother and my my father's youngest sister in Oct. 1998. Both had died in 1960's, one in 1960 and the other in 1969. My father was 5 yrs. old and the youngest of the 4 children in 1914 when placed in the orphanage.
So as you can see , I honestly don't have a lot on my dad's family or his oldest sister Lizzie. I gues I'll never be able to find what happen to Lizzie, but I'm fortunate to have been able to locate my father's other 2 sibling's and now have 8 new cousin's.
As for my aunt Lizzie's full birthdate, the orphanage did not know the birth date's of any of the 4 children and they guessed at the year of birth. Lizzie's was guessed at 1900, but I do not know what month and day she celebrated her birthday on. In the case of my father his birthday was celebrated on the month & day he arrived at his foster home the first day.
