Joel fought and died in Civil War in 1861. He fought as a Privat e in Company E, 7th Tennessee Cavalry Regiment Regular, USA. He joined on Jul y 6, 1861. On December 20, 1862, he was captured near Trenton in West Tennesse e. He died on Sept 20, 862 from disease contracted while a prisioner of war, according to a Union Death record found at the Tennessee Archives. He was 34 ye ars old when he died. Mary applied for Joel's pension at a Bueno Vita P.O.
