LOU SHANLEY FAMILY - EAGLE CITY Mr. and Mrs. Lou Shanley lived on a farm southwest of Eagle City, at that time it was Dillon. the had one child, Carrie. When Carrie was in the 3rd grade, they moved to Oakwood, Oklahoma. they lived here for about 5 years. then they moved to Little Robe for a while. Then back to Eagle City to the new two-story wooden school house about 1905.
Mr. Shanley was a farmer. he operated a threshing machine during harvest, a big help to the farmers. He did this for several years. carrie married Walter Dixon.

A Centennial History of the Watonga Area: 1892-1992
LOUIS AND LOUISA SHANLEY
Louis M. Shanley, of Wisconsin, and Louis Price, of Illinois, were living in Gage County, Neb., when they were married in 1893. Although they "set up house keeping" on a small farm near Adams, less than two years later they unloaded from railway cars, livestock, fartming equipment and household goods at Kingfisher, Oklahoma Territory.
The then followed the trail westward paso Watonga and crossing the North Canadian River, drove northward, ending the journey on a claim just to the south of a small settlement with a post office of Dillon, later to become Eagle City. For more than 56 years, this was to be their home.
Lew operated one of the first horsepowered small grain threshing machines in the area, and "Aunt Lou" became reowned far and wide for her outstanding flock of Buff Orpingtons. Egg "settings" were greatly prized and, consequently for the Shanley pioneer family, "butter and egg sales became more than just "pin money." They were recognized as progressive leaders, not only in farming, but in the life of the community. Neighborliness was an outstanding characteristic of the "Lew and Lou" Shanley family. the folksy music, flowing so joyously from Lew's fiddle, was often enjoyed at prties, square dances and community gatherings.
Only two children were born to Louis and Louisa, Robert Arthur, who died at the age of two, and Carrie Eliza, born in 1898, Carrie, as a vivacious young belle of the Eagle City community, married the young widower, Walter Dixon, and thus became a very loving stepmother for his two sons, Delbert and Dale, children of Walter's first wife, Ella Mae Smoot.
The five children born to Carrie and Walter Dixon, including twen daughters who died at birth, were Ella Glendene, who married Edward Mauritson; Barbara Lou, who married Morris Miller, and Larry G. Dixon, whose sife was the former Norma Comacho. URIA "STUB" SHANLEY - EAGLE CITY
Uria "Stub" Shanley and Edith Harper eloped and were married in Washingtio, Kansas, on October 30, 1893. They loaded up a covered wagon and started to Oklahoma. They bought a farm two miless west and one mile north of what is now Eagle City. They lived in the covered wagon for a year before they built a log house. Mr. Shalley bought posts for one cent and hauled them to El Reno and sold them for two cents. The wagon box with covered top was set on the ground to live in.
In 1919, the Shanleys moved into Eagle City and lived in a shanty. Mr. Shaley, :Stub" as they called him, worked for the Champlin Oil Company. He had been on the farm for 25 years. he was a wholesale dealer for 17 years, delivering gas and oil all over the country. their children were Clifford, Lillie, Olve and Jeanette.
