General Notes (Husband)



The main homestead was located on the brow of a small "mountain" overlooking what is now a main highway and properties of Isothermal College, Spindale. At the time of his death, the home was a large two-story structure with a wide verandah across the front.  There was a well and a well house not too far back from the rear of the house, set in an orchard of fruit trees. Stretching back of the well were several cottages assigned to the house servants and other retainers.  White sand walkways outlined the cottage area.  Located in the backyard, not too far from the well and amid the fruit trees, was the original family cemetery, where Andrew and Polly were originally buried.
