BIO: The PARK Genealogy, compiled by Glenn M. PARK, states that Margaret Jennett PARK was born near Buds Point and Boonesborough, IA. She migrated to Vermilion County, IL with her parents. There she met Washington Irving CARTER, whose parents had come there from N.H. The young couple was married in Hoopeston, IL by Rev. J. Francis LYNN. They remained on a farm in that county for about 10 years; during that time all four of their children were born. In 1885 the family moved to Rice County, KS, where Irving bought a farm east of Sterling. After their children were grown, the couple moved into Sterling.

BIO: Per the PARK Genealogy. compiled by Glenn M. PARK, and revised by Park W. CARTER, Washington Herbert "Bert" CARTER was raised on the farm in Sterling, KS. He later attended Cooper College in that town, and taught school for about 3 years in the early 1900s. He returned to Hoopeston, IL and worked in the bookkeeping departement of the American Can Co., a factory operated by his uncle, Mark BOARDMAN. In 1908, he began courses in watch and jewelry repair and optometry in Peoria, IL. Following the completion of that program, he went to IN to work briefly, then returned to KS to work for an Emporia jeweler. In 1916, "Bert" purchased his own jewery store in Eureka, KS, and operated that business until his death in 1948. "Bert" and Jennie Louise BLACK were married on 30 OCT 1912. The couple had two sons and one daughter. Their first child, Herbert Black CARTER died at the age of seven. Margaret Katherine was born in 1918 in Eureka; the third child was Park W. CARTER, who established contact with this compiler in 1994, and has provided her with extensive information on the PARK family and its connection with the ANDERSON and GILCHRIST families.

BIO: Thomas Irving CARTER grew up on his parents' farm near Sterling, KS. As a young man, he was driving a team of horses across a small bridge, when it gave way under them. One leg and hip were badly injured, leaving him partially crippled for the rest of his life. Thomas and his wife Nell lived on a farm near LaJunta, COLORADO for 15-20 years until Nell's death in 1935. From that time, Thomas resided in Sterling, KS.

BIO: The PARK Genealogy records the following biography re C.L.CARTER:
Curtis Luther CARTER played professional baseball as a young man (for awhile he was a pitcher on a Topeka, KANSAS, team) before taking a course in watch repairing at the Kansas City (MO>) School of Watchmaking in the early 1900s. Later He operated jewelry stores in Sterling and Protection, KS. For several years he was associated with the firm of Lange and Wetteroth (Felix LANGE was his brother-in- law), a watch-repair company in Kansas City, MO. In the 1930s he was repairman and optometrist for Levitt's Jewelry in Wichita, KS. He then managed a store briefly in Howard, KS, before moving in about 1940 to Arkansas City, KS, where he remained until his death.
