Loyal was an excellent auto mechanic and liked to fish when they lived on Big Sugar Creek near Cyclone, Mo.
The family moved to Pineville, Mo. and Loyal worked as an auto mechanic in a gerage there for a couple years - then moved to Anderson, Mo. where he worked for L.L. Barnes in his chevrolet garage, as auto mechanic. Then they moved to Pawhuska, Ok. where he worked as a mechanic for the city until his retirement. (because of heart problems) Nov 25, 1921, " Mr. Loyal Milleson, of Cyclone, and Miss Lora Clark, of Powell, were united in marriage at the home of Charlie Hamilton, Sunday afternoon, Nov. 20, 1921. The bride is the yougest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clark. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Milleson. Both are highly respected young people and we all wish them a happy and prosperous journey through life together."

Gwendolyn told us that Louis was named after the City where he was born, Louisville, Kentucky, but no one was sure how to spell his name . Kentucky has no record of such a birth. Finally the Washington County Clerk in Salem, Indiana, sent a birth record with no name for the child, only that it was a white male, and the father listed as WS Clark, and mother listed as Bettie Sands, and the date of birth as July 16, 1886. Since the Census records list Louis's father, Winfield Scott Clark, and mother, Rebecca Sands, as probably living in Salem at that time, it is probable that Louis, as the eigth child born, was born in a hospital across the river from Louisville in New Albany, Washington County, Indiana, about 23 miles south of Salem, so everyone called him Louis and he really had no registered name. But, when Louis died in 1939, his sister, Maud, listed his name as Louie, she better than anyone would know, so Louie is used in this data set. In 1910 Louie worked at a Grocery House. In the 1920 Census Louis was listed as an Engineer in a laundry at 4003 Park Avenue in San Diego. Louis and his friend made some money in 1927 from faming in the south bay of San Diego. They bought a new car. In mid 1928 Mr. Green stalled the car on the SD&AE Railroad tracks, a train hit the car killing Mr. Green and Louis's two year old son John. Son Raymond was injured as well as Louis. Louis was never realy the same after that especially when a pump he was installing in a well fell on his head sometime later. When Louie died in 1939 he was working at the Wilsey Cooper Goat Ranch in Spring Valley, probably installing a water pump or equipment, and died of a heart attack at 5PM. He was living in Encanto at that time and Maud stated that Louie had been doing pump work for 25 years (predating his first meeting of Gwendolyn).
General Notes (Wife)
June 1998 Gwendolyn, called Gwen, graduated from Julian Union High School in June 1920, where her nickname was Guinie, disposition as "Happy", favorite food was anything, and ambition was to be a teacher, That fall she attended Normal School (predecessor of San Diego State College) on Normal Avenue in San Diego, to become a teacher, and lived in a boarding house on Normal Street run by Winfield Clark, where Louie swept her up. In 1932 Gwen left Louie, and moved to Julian, with her 4 children, to live on the 60 acre Griffith homestead now in the vacation cabin rental and fruit growing businesses. The Great Depression meant meager living, especially with 4 children. Gwen worked as a seamtress for the WPA, then as a telephone operator, and finally retired after working at the Julian Post Office with her fellow 1920 Julian High School graduate, Florence Price. Gwen became Postmaster and served on several community entities, including on the School Board, After the homestead, now only 16 acres, became too much for Gwen, she moved to Escondido to live with son Thomas where she worked on the garden.
