Much of this information about the Van Laers comes from the February 1985 issue of "De Halve Maen" published by the Holland Society of New York.
Adrian Van Laer was born in Amsterdam and was baptized there in 1634. Like his father, he became a Shoemaker. He married Divertje Luycas in 1656, but she died a year later. In 1658, Adrian immigrated to New Amsterdam on the ship "gelded Beaver. Shortly thereafter, he continued his trade as a shoemaker in the New World. About that time, the Burgonmasters of New Amsterdam established a volunteer fire fighting system, and the first equipment ordered was leather fire buckets to be placed at selected places in town. Adrian was one of four shoemakers selected to supply the buckets. In 1660 he married Abigael Ver Planck. By 1661Adrian had ths shop and home on what is now Broad Street. The author of from the Holland Society must have found numerous court records about Adrian; he was apparently a feisty character, familiar with the inside of a court room. At various times, he was accused of mistreating an apprentice, of not tanning the leather properly at a tanning mill he owned with his brother, and of assulting that same brother. By April of 1672 Abigail apparently had died, because he married his third wife Luytie Schonen, at that time. The last known record of Adrian Van Laer was January 1687, when he waswitness at a baptism.

MARIE LOUISE (1791-1847) was the second wife of Napoleon Bonaparte and the daughter of Emperor Francis I of Austria. She married Napoleon in 1810 after his divorce from Josephine. Napoleon and Marie Louise had a son in 1811 who became known as Napoleon II.
Marie Louise was not permitted to go with Napoleon when he was exiled. She and her son lived at Schonbrunn, near Vienna. She received the Italian duchies of Parma, Piacenza, and Guastalla in 1816, and governed them until her death. Marie Louise was married twice after the death of Napoleon. She was born in Vienna, Austria.
