"Cap" Conley Is Dead
Well Known Local Man "Crossed the River" Yesterday
Captain C. M. Conley, well known in this city, died at his home on Quincy Street about 3:30 o 'clock yesterday morning from a complication of diseases from which he had suffered for som e time. The deceased had resided in Parkersburg for a number of years where he had made man y friends.
The deceased during the Civil War was captain of Company E, Ninth Infantry of West Virginia . He is survived by 13 living children, the mother preceding the father to the grave some ti me ago.
The children are as follows: Mrs. Alice Long, Mrs. Louis Moore, Anna Conley, Floyd Conley, William Conley, Neal Conley, Ed ith Conley, Lenne Conley, and John Conley, all of this city; Mrs. Esta Nelson of Wellsville O H; Robert Conley of Huntington; James Conley of Akron OH; Sherman Conley of Princeton IL.
No arrangements had been made for the funeral yesterday. This will be held up pending the ar rival of the children who reside out of state.

During the war of 1861, he served over four years; enlisted as p rivate and served two years, held commission as first and second lieutenant, and was promote d to captain of Company B, 9th Virginia Infantry, and was in many engagements, among them Clo yd Mountain, Cedar Creek, Winchester and Fishers Hill; in the last-named battle he was severe ly wounded. Perry Conley, brother of Cornelius M., was killed in Webster county, West Virgin ia, while in the Confederate service. The first wife of Cornelius Conley was Sarah Laughlin , and their children were four: Mary (Lockhart), born October 10, 1859, lives in Wirt county ; Alice (Long), October 28, 1861, resides in Monroe county, Ohio; Philip S., June 20, 1866, a nd Sherman, October 5, 1868, live in Reedy Ripple, this county. The present wife of Mr. Conl ey is Hattie, daughter of Benjamin and Minerva (Yates) Freeman. She was born April 29, 1852 , in Taylor, now one of the counties of West Virginia. Her parents are no longer living, an d the parents of Mr. Conley are also deceased. Four children, all living at the home, bles s the union of Cornelius M. and Hattie (Freeman) Conley. They were born: Anna B., June 15 , 1872; Lenna A., December 10, 1876; Robert O., June 1, 1879, and Lelia E., July 14, 1882. I n 1870 Cornelius M. Conley became a resident in Wirt county, engaging in farming in Elizabet h district. He is superintendent of the Sunday school connected with the Baptist Church at P alestine, and his postoffice is Reedy Ripple, Wirt county, West Virginia.

"Cap" Conley Is Dead
Well Known Local Man "Crossed the River" Yesterday
Captain C. M. Conley, well known in this city, died at his home on Quincy Street about 3:30 o 'clock yesterday morning from a complication of diseases from which he had suffered for som e time. The deceased had resided in Parkersburg for a number of years where he had made man y friends.
The deceased during the Civil War was captain of Company E, Ninth Infantry of West Virginia . He is survived by 13 living children, the mother preceding the father to the grave some ti me ago.
The children are as follows: Mrs. Alice Long, Mrs. Louis Moore, Anna Conley, Floyd Conley, William Conley, Neal Conley, Ed ith Conley, Lenne Conley, and John Conley, all of this city; Mrs. Esta Nelson of Wellsville O H; Robert Conley of Huntington; James Conley of Akron OH; Sherman Conley of Princeton IL.
No arrangements had been made for the funeral yesterday. This will be held up pending the ar rival of the children who reside out of state.

Cornelius M. Conley - son of Patrick and Mary (Stallman) Conley, was born April 15, 1838, i n Gilmer county, Virginia, that part of the county which has since been set aside, and is Cal houn county, West Virginia. During the war of 1861, he served over four years; enlisted as p rivate and served two years, held commission as first and second lieutenant, and was promote d to captain of Company B, 9th Virginia Infantry, and was in many engagements, among them Clo yd Mountain, Cedar Creek, Winchester and Fishers Hill; in the last-named battle he was severe ly wounded. Perry Conley, brother of Cornelius M., was killed in Webster county, West Virgin ia, while in the Confederate service. The first wife of Cornelius Conley was Sarah Laughlin , and their children were four: Mary (Lockhart), born October 10, 1859, lives in Wirt county ; Alice (Long), October 28, 1861, resides in Monroe county, Ohio; Philip S., June 20, 1866, a nd Sherman, October 5, 1868, live in Reedy Ripple, this county. The present wife of Mr. Conl ey is Hattie, daughter of Benjamin and Minerva (Yates) Freeman. She was born April 29, 1852 , in Taylor, now one of the counties of West Virginia. Her parents are no longer living, an d the parents of Mr. Conley are also deceased. Four children, all living at the home, bles s the union of Cornelius M. and Hattie (Freeman) Conley. They were born: Anna B., June 15 , 1872; Lenna A., December 10, 1876; Robert O., June 1, 1879, and Lelia E., July 14, 1882. I n 1870 Cornelius M. Conley became a resident in Wirt county, engaging in farming in Elizabet h district. He is superintendent of the Sunday school connected with the Baptist Church at P alestine, and his postoffice is Reedy Ripple, Wirt county, West Virginia.
