At one time, Bubby and Teen owned a farm on Manor Road, Baltimore Co., MD, just north of Honeysuckle Hill, on the right. People named Winkler lived with and cared for them in their later life. When the brothers died, they left the farm to the Winkler's. Before they died they sold some of the ground for $100 an acre, and lived to see the prices skyrocket. General Notes (Husband)
During the Civil War, he enlisted in the US Navy in Baltimore, MD on 15 March 1865. He served on the Alleghaney to 13 May 1865, on the Gunboat Mercedita to 13 October 1865 and on the SS Brooklyn to 11 September 1867 as an Armorer's Mate and a Landsman. He was honorably discharged in Philadelphia on 11 September 1867.
He never fully recovered from diseases contracted during the Civil War. He applied for a pension January, 1891 because he was partially disabled due to a mashed left toe, rheumatism, and pyles. He retained Mr. A. Parlett Lloyd as a lawyer to apply for him and paid the lawyer $10 for his services. At the time he was living at 811 Forrest Street, Baltimore City, MD. He was granted a pension in 1898; in 1903 his pension amounted to $8 a month. The application number was #18559, Certificate #9003. His File Designation at the National Archives is NAV WC 16-366.
The family story says he had a brother, Thomas, who served in the Confederate Army and later settled in Alabama. Supposedly he was disgraced by being on the side that lost, and wouldn't show his face in Baltimore again. There is a good possibility that the Thomas mentioned was his brother-in-law, Thomas Corcoran, who served in the Confederate Army and did settle in Alabama after the war and owned a lumber mill. Haven't proven this yet.
According to the 1880 Census, he was 51 years old, so that would mean he was born in 1829. According to his pension records, he said he was born on 1833. This 1880 Census states that his mother was born in Maryland and his father was born in Virginia. It also says that he was unemployed for 5 months during 1880 due to rheumatism. It also states that he can read and write and lists his occupation as a Tinsmith.
Another family story was that William and his brother, Thomas, came to this country when they were teenagers, from England. If this is true, the 1850 Census shows a William H. Watson, age 16yrs, living in Ward 1, Baltimore City at the Seaman's Home, with his occupation being a Mariner. But this Census also says he was born in Maryland.
William was a Protestant, but he always made sure that his children went to the Catholic Church. He helped them get ready on Sunday mornings by shining their shoes, etc.
There is a possibility that a Watson was a Tory or Loyalist (loyal to the crown) during the American Revolution (1775-83). He supposedly sat out the war in the Bahamas rather than fight the British, and after the war came back to Virginia.
There is a possibility that the Watson family was related to the Langhorne's, the family of Lady Nancy Astor.

General Notes (Wife)
Lived on Chase Street, near McKim's Hill, in Baltimore City after her husband went to the National Home for Disabled Veterans in Hampton, Virginia. When her son, George, got married in 1902, she went to live with her daughter, Mary Alice Shepperd in Monkton, Baltimore County, MD. As achild she had lived on Monkton Road.
When she was a young child living in Monkton, she and her brothers and sisters used to walk from Monkton to Cockeysville to church on Sundays at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Church Road, Baltimore County, MD.
In her later years in Monkton, at Mary Alice Shepperd's house, everytime she heard the train whistle she ran to the window, saying "Maybe Pappa's come home". Her father, Patrick Corcoran, had disappeared and she always expected him to return.
She was in a train wreck some time in her lifetime and hurt her chest.
When she needed to come to town for medical or dental treatment, she stayed with her son, Gearge and his family on 38th Street. At that time, she was a little old lady, usually dressed all in black.
She applied for a widow's pension of her husband on October 21, 1903. She was living in mOnkton at he time. She couldn't sign her name, so she made her mark "X". She paid the lawyer, Mr. A. Parlett Lloyd a $10 fee, also. Certificate # 16366. Her pension check on 04 December 1916, her last, was for $12.
She died at the home of her daughter, Mary Alice Watson Shepperd, with whom she lived after George was married in 1902. She was laid out at Bridge House on Monkton Road, where the Shepperd's lived. After the viewingm W. C. Brooks Undertakers of Sparks, sent the casket to Baltimore City on the milk train. Her son, George Watson, met the train with Charles F. Evans Undertakers in Baltimore and proceeded to the burial at Bonnie Brae Cemetery, now New Cathedral Cemetery on Frederick Road, Baltimore County, MD.
General Notes for Child William Henry Watson
Place: William, Jr. and Grace lived with her parents in Franklin Square after their marriage and William worked two jobs. He was very industrious, and from overwork, he had a mental breakdown and was sent to Spring Grove or Springfield Hospital. He lived on mOntebello Avenue, Homestead, near Waverly in Baltimore City, in 1892. He was a carpenter, cabinet maker, a lamplighter, and an inspector. He lived at 808 E. 35th Street , Baltimore City, in 1931.
General Notes for Child George Washington Sylvester Watson
Health: Diabetic, diagnosed when he was in his fifties.
Education: St. John's and St. James' Parochial Schools for Boys - run by a religious order of Brothers. Baltimore City Public School #45 - Eager and Greenmount
Lived at 510 E. Monument Street in 1892 and was a clerk by occupation. Lived at 811 Forrest Street in 1898 and at 719 Chase Street near McKim's Hill in 1900, all in Baltimore City.
He had to go to work at the age of twelve, so he went to night school and took correspondence courses to become an electrical engineer. Later he took a job in Puritan, Pennsylvania (on top of a mountain), near Altoona, in the coal mining area. He also served as a Justice of the Peace while there. He came back to Baltimore and was married in 1902, and he and Teresa returned to Puritan for about three years. Came back to Baltimore for good sometime in 1904.
While they were living in Puritan, Teresa came back to Baltimore to have their first child, Xavier, then returned to Pennsylvania, had another baby that was stillborn, and then returned to Baltimore.
Lived in an apartment at Eager Street and Greenmount Avenue, Baltimore City, over top of Joseph Kelly's saloon and package liquor store, which Gearge managed for him. When Joseph bought other saloons at Madison Street and Greenmount Avenue and Hillen and Forrest Streets, George also managed those.
In 1912, George opened his own saloon and restaurant, featuring a free lunch, at 405 N. Gay Street, two doors from Belair Market. The family lived in an apartment upstairs for about two years. This venture was not a success, so he went back to managing the three businesses for Joseph until Prohibition time.
He then opened an electrical supply, house wiring, and repair business - Star Electric Company -at Hillen Street and the Fallsway; and in 1918 moved to larger quarters at 609 Forrest Street. Josephine Kelly, his sister-in-law, helped manage the business, and him, too. She even insisted one naming his children.
George and Teresa lived at 893 Greenmount Avenue, at Eager Street; then an apartment at Madison Street and Greenmount Avenue, then 2536 Greenmount Avenue, where Joseph and Mary Watson were born. Then they moved to 405 N. Gay Street, then Homewood Avenue and Biddle Street, then 1132 Homewood Avenue until 1914. Moved to 38th Street in 1914, then to 3701 Greenmount Avenue, Waverly, two years later. George built four apartment buildings on this site - 3641, 3701, 3707, and 3711 Greenmount Avenue, and he and Teresa lived there until they died. George and his son, Gerard, who was deaf, managed the apartments, doing all the maintenance themselves. The apartments were nicknamed "The Tombstones" by some of the tenants because they were tall and skinny.
George was a diabetic, the disease was diagnosed when he was in his fifties. He always used saccarin and ate gluten bread, but he also cheated a lot on his diet.
He was confined to a wheelchair for a while before his death. He had a slight stroke nine months before his death and died of a heart attack at age 68.
He had a shore next to Peter B. Kelly's on Bear Creek, Turner's Station, Baltimore County, MD. The address was on Avondale Road. The land was part of the Seymour Estate. The shores were torn down after WW II, in the late 1940's and the Day Village Apartments were built there. The last house on Avondale Road belonged to the Milburn's - Lola and Everett "Piggy" and their two children, Everett and - they lived there year round. The area past Milburn's was called "Peter's Point". George's house was next to last - a big brown shingle house consisting of a living-dining room, kitchen, two bedrooms, bathroom and a huge sunparlor, with windows on three sides and window seats that doubled for storage under the windows, also on three sides. Upstairs were three bedrooms. There was also a big screened porch across the front, and a large lawn leading down to the beach and the water. Next was a small house, usually rented to the Cullisons for the summer, and past that was Peter's luxurious home, sitting up on a hill overlooking the water. He had a porch around three sides, lots of trees and more than an acre of ground. Steps led down to the beach, with a rainwater shower at the foot of the steps. Inside were living room, dining room, kitchen (there was always a pot of crab soup on the stove and usually another pot with steamed crabs in it), at least three bedrooms and several bathrooms. All the furnishings were luxurious - satin bedspreads, chrystal and china everywhere in the dining room, antiques in the other rooms, etc. Out behind the house was a large carport, covered with grape vines, and a very high garage( it was full of lots of fishing equipment). Nearby was a knife grinding wheel and several smaller out buildings. A picnic table and benches were built around a huge maple tree on the lawn in front of the house. Next to Peter's house was one belonging to Daddy Graham, a black man. Up the road, Henry, another black man, ran a small store. For drinking water, 5 gallon bottles were filled at a gas station in Dundalk, but for other water there was a town pump about a half a mile up the road, towards Turner's Station. Turner's Station also had several stores for shopping. At the shores, there was always a motor boat, a row boat, and a canoe for everyone's use. Between Peter's and George's, a very large pier juted out into the water about one hundred feet. It was sturdy enough to hold a large truck being driven out on it. At the end was a diving board and to the side were steps leading down to the water. Around one of the large trees in Peter's front yard was a circular table and benches. At any time of day or evening, there would be people sitting there eating crabs. If the crabs ran out, someone would get in the boat, go out about 100 yards, and catch some more.
Two of George's pallbearers at his funeral were his nephews, Tom Shepperd and Marshall Watson.

General Notes (Husband)
In 1850 he owned Palo Alto Farm on Monkton Road, about one and one half miles east of York Road, Monkton, Baltimore County, MD. The house was of wood frame, four stories high, with two rooms on each floor. It was about 75 yards off of the road on the northeast side, between Blue Mount and Piney Hill Roads. The property was higher near the road, so only the top floors could be seen from Monkton Road. It was close to the Gunpowder River.
This Monkton Road property adjoined the Ellis P. Horn property. Francis Corcoran, one of Patrick's sons was employed by Mr. Horn in the 1850 Census. This was sold to John Bacon. He later sold to Henry Snow, a food wholesaler. Patrick sold the farm to the Fridinger's, who in turn sold it to Charles Garrett. The Fridinger's moved across the street to the McBride farm, which they later sold to the Ledbetter's.
After selling the farm, Patrick moved the family to Baltimore City. By 1860 he is listed in the Baltimore City Directory as the proprietor of the "Bull's Head Tavern" at 132 N. Front Street, near Gay Street and Belair Market. His son, Christopher was listed as the Barkeeper. It evidently was also a boarding house and hotel. He sold it sometime before 1863, because new owners, Tracey & Stansbury, are listed then. The price was $600.
Shortly after the sale, Patrick disappeared, never to be heard from again. Some in the family felt that he had met with foul play, while others thought he may have enlisted in the Civil War and was either killed or settled elsewhere after the war.
The 1850 Census for Baltimore County, MD District 7 Monkton, Monkton-Hereford Road shows Patrick as a laborer , born in 1812. The 1860 Census for Baltimore City, MD Ward 8, shows him as proprietor of a Boarding House, with a value of $200, and born in 1809. The 1870 Census Baltimore City, MD, Ward 4 (Roll 573, Page 33) shows him as being born in 1818.
In the 1860 Census, one of his boarders was William H. Watson, a tinner , born 1833, who later married his daughter, Mary Ann Corcoran. Another boarder was Charles Davis, an upholsterer, born 1818, who later married his daughter, Ellen Corcoran.
General Notes (Wife)
Her daughter, Mary Ann Corcoran Watson's death certificate states that her mother, Catherine Montague, was born in France. But Catherine's death certificate says she was born in Ireland, and was a residnet of Baltimore City, MD for 60 years. Since her son and daughter, Francis and Frances, were born at sea in 1836, according to the 1850 Census, she evidently was a resident only 57 years. She was living at 1229 Maryland Avenue, Baltimore City, with her daughter, Ellen Davis, at the time of her death.
She was said to be the daughter of a wealthy land owner in County Meath, Ireland, who was engaged to be married. She eloped with Patrick Corcoran, the caretaker's son, shortly before her scheduled marriage.

Birth: at sea between Ireland and the US

General Notes for Child Sylvester Corcoran
The story told by the family states that he was living with his brother, Thomas. He was throwing snow balls (?) at a neighbor, who was crippled and in a wheelchair, and the neighbor shot him. He was just a teenager.
