Hi,
A correspondent told me she downloaded your file of information on Benjamin Cornell and Mar y Fair from Ancestry.Com. My sources say that Benjamin married (1) Sarah ___ and (2) Mary_ _ (perhaps Bond). Benjamin's eldest son Smith married Mary Fair who died 1 Jul. 1860 at Richardson, Nebr.
My interest is Benjamin's son Jacob and the information you provided about his family. Thi s is not my Cornell line, but I am trying to update one of the Cornell genealogies, the 197 5 book of Prentiss Glazier. I also have a Cornell Genealogy web page where I make availabl e several large downloadable Cornell files.
I'd like to incorporate Jacob's family in my file, but I need to know where the information c ame from. Sources are very important to me. Those of us doing family research today have los t so much important data because of the practice of most genealogists of the past essentiall y saying, "Take my word for this." Unlike them, we have no expectation of that, and we hav e to tell where we got what if we want our work to be taken seriously.
Can you help me? I'll be glad to share with you what I have on this family.
Thanks,
Tom Cornell

This is correspondence from a few doubtful people?:
Hi, Sandy,
That sounds like very complete information on this family. Can you tell me what your source s are? I need to include that detail in my GEDCOM and also my update of the Cornell genealog y of Prentiss Glazier, i.e.,
Gifford, Sandy [Corr. #], census recs., cemetery recs.
I don't need copies of your sources but want to list what they are. In that way, anyone who h appens to be related to you will know where the data came from. Consider that we have lost s o much good information because the genealogists before us failed to say where they got what . Most of us today know we can't get away with that, or our research will not be taken serio usly.
My source said that Jocob married a Mary ___.. Any chance that Drusilla had that as a middl e name, or she was a second wife? There is a considerable gap between the last two childre n where Jacob could have remarried. As you provided her full name, I have to assume you kno w a personal interest in it. I'm also quite impressed that you bothered to collect spouses a nd dates for all family members rather than just your own personal line. This enhances you r opportunity to find cousins.
My information on this family came from two correspondents between 10 and 20 years ago. I ha ve no idea if they are still living. They are:
1. McClanahan, Mrs. Betty
2. Cornell, Margaret -- will of Benjamin Cornell of Frederick Co., MD; land recs. of Frederic k Co.; tombstones of Harney, MD, family recs.
It's my suspicion that Betty's information may have come originally from Margaret. In a fe w places, this was indicated. I have probably updated my GEDCOM relative to the one posted a t my web site. If you need more detail on what I have from Margaret, I can look in her correspondence file. I keep everything. I don't have their addresses real handy at the mome nt but will be glad to look them up if they are of interest to you. If I recall correctly, B etty was in Missouri, and Margaret was in Ohio. Both were quite generous with their informat ion and were obviously very nice ladies. Am pretty sure I can also tell you how they are con nected to the family of Smith and Benjamin Cornell.

m1. Edith Cornell m2. Faye O'Dell"
BIO: In his "BRIEF HISTORY OF FAMILY OF WILLIAM L. O'DELL and DAISY ALICE McNULTY," James Robert O'Dell wrote of this brother, "Donald left home at age 16 and never returned for several years. In Colorado he married Edith CORNELL. Had two children--Robert Leroy and Alice Lorraine. He died in Jan. 1976; married to Faye ______________?" In another place, James Robert writes that his parents, William and Daisy O'DELL reared Donald's son, Robert L. Compiler's first contact with Donald O'DELL's name and identity was early in 1997, when his name was listed among a list of high school graduates in Stutsman County, ND in 1919. Evidently, Donald at some point lived in that county, probably with his grandparents, Isaac and Alcie O'DELL.

O'DELL and DAISY ALICE McNULTY," a 2-page history written by James Robert O'DELL and forwarded to compiler by Lyla MILKE (see Ref. #2 above.)
