Gelyam Cornelise Cornell is the common ancestor of the Cornell family in America. The first record of him in New Amsterdam is a land purchase in Flatbush, Long Island, New York in 1658. In 1661 he and his son purchased a bowery (Farm) in Flatbush of 48 margins and 480 rods. He also purchased pieces of salt meadow of five margens, two peices of land of five margens, two house plots with houses and barns and two black oxen, three milk cows, a wagon, plough, iron chain, and cramp-iron to hold saw teeth when filing...all for 450 gilders. Some believe him to be Huguenot. The surname for moe than a century was Cornale, with the accent on the e; then it changed to Cornell.

By themselves, early instruments like the Celtic harp, guitar, and hammer dulcimer are beautiful and mysterious at the same time.
But at the fingertips of Linda Titolo and Roger Cornell of Arlington, those same instruments bring to life the essences of the ancieny music for which they were created.
The couple met in college at Virgina Tech in 1977 and married in 1980. Both were musicians in school, but didn't perform together until they moved to Arlington in 1983.
In an interview last week, Cornell said he began playing guitar at age nine, "and I haven't stopped since".
Titolo began studying violin when she was seven years old. Both play the hammer dulcimer, an ancient made of wood and metal strings that arehammered to produce sound.
Cornell built his first in 1980, but soon realized "it was more fun to play than to build." he said.
In 1989, both Cornell and Titolo learned to play the folk, or Celtic harp.
A folk harp differs from a concert harp in size and structure. A concert harp has foot pedalsmuch like a piano that enable the player to modulate or change notes. The folk harp features levers positioned at the top of the instrument that must be pushed or pulled to achieve the same result.
Their musical repertoire consists mostly of Irish, Scottish, and English works, flavored with French fiddle tunesand an array of international ethnic delights, ranging from Japanese and Israeli fold dances to compositions from the Italian Renaissance. ...
