8 July he married Mary Dixon, as he bought Planner ' s l a n d 2 weeks later it's not unlikely he used his wif e' s do we r y to do that.He appears a few more times in th e c our t rec or d as being on a jury, witnessing an agreem ent , sue ing so meo ne for debt. The unknown daughter of Mary and Thomas COTTINGHAM i s b a s e d on a court record. It is dated August 13, 169 6 (Fr o m Ju di cial Records 1696-1698). This date is 8 yea rs aft e r th e dea th of Thomas which occurred in 1688. Hi s wido w h as re marrie d to a man named Richard Rugg (prob ably fa the r of Fu rbury R ugg, but that's another story) . Two o f Thom as's dau ghters h ave married but have evide ntly no t been g iven thei r legal s hare of their father' s estate . The cour t documen t is a peti tion to have impa rtial me n see that t his is don e. The petit ioners are Ge orge Hey , who was th e first husba nd of my ance stor Sara h COTTING HAM, and Lang land Goddard w ho has marrie d on e of her sis ters. As all t he named COTTIN GHAM daughter s ' husbands ar e known, Langla nd Goddard mus t have marri e d a daughter w e don't have th e name of - or , it's poss ibl e he is the f irst husband o f one of the othe r daught ers.

According to Dr. Matthew Wise in his book "The Bosto n F a m i ly" on p.380 Mary Rugg daughter of Furbury Rug g & Ma r y Co tt ingham married David Adams, son of Philli p Ada m s & Ann C rew e. Dr. Wise goes on to state "By hi s will s ig ned 8 Apri l 17 02 and probated 3 March 1703/4 , Rugg beq uea thed to hi s daug hter Mary all land "when h er mother d ies " (tracts "L ittlewo rth," "Planner's Adven ture"); if M ar y should have n o heirs , the land was to g o to Jonatha n Co ttingham (his wi fe Mary' s youngest brot her) and to A nn He y (daughter of Ge orge Hey) ; his wif e Mary was name d exec utrix; witnesses w ere Georg e Hey , Charles Cottingh am (An n Wills 5:173)

David Adams was also married to Mary Cohoon (Colehoune).

Her father died in 1688, when she was 15. Some time be t w e e n that date and 1696 she married George Hey. On Au g . 1 3 , 16 96 George Hey (husband of Sarah) and Langlan d Go dda r d petit ion the court of Somerset County sayin g the y hav e m arried t he daughters of Thomas Cottingha m who di ed int esta te, and w ant the court to make a divi sion of h is pers ona l estate. Ge orge and Sarah had one c hild - a d aughte r name d Anne Hey. B y 1714, Anne marrie d Dennis Tay lor, th e son o f Hope and Mar garet (Dennis ) Taylor. Georg e Hey di ed betwe en June and Aug ust of 17 08. In his will , he lef t his perso nal estate and d welli ng plantation t o his wife , Sarah. A t Sarah's death i t w as to go to thei r daughte r Anne. Sara h married secondl y , Randall Long. R andall wa s born 4 Oct . 1683, making h im 1 0 years younge r than Sara h. He was th e 7th child o f Samue l and Jane (M inshall) Lon g. Randall an d Sarah ha d two child ren - Sara h, born c1717 ; and Mary, bo rn c172 1. Both girls g rew u p to marry thei r first cousins . Sar ah married Samuel L on g, the son of he r father's broth er . Mary married Thoma s C ottingham, the s on of her mother ' s brother. By 1717 R andall 's sister an d brother-in-la w Eli zabeth and Adria n Marshal l had died , leaving thei r 4 child ren to be rais ed by Randal l and Sa rah Long. Th eir househol d was certai nly a mixed on e - a s tep-daught er, 2 daughters , and 4 ne phews. Randall Lo ng di ed by 2 3 Dec. 1739. In hi s will h e left his wife Sara h mo st o f his estate for her l ifetim e and gave his grandso n R an dall Long property, som e live stock, and a year's scho o l ing "provided he stays wit h hi s grandmother Sarah Lon g un t il 21 or her decease." I n 17 45 Sarah Long, aged 7 2 gav e a d eposition about land ow ne d by her father, Tho mas Cot tingham . She had died by 17 4 8 when her grandso n is taxe d as the ow ner of the land t ha t had been hers.
