And of Chateau Renard. The English Courtenays descend from Renaud, who in 1150-1 appears as a witness at Rouen to a charter of Henry Duke of Normandy (later King Henry 11). In 1160 Henry gave him Sutton in Berkshire (Sutton Courtenay) and from that time till his death he was in constant attendance on the king.
