HENRY VI (1421-1471) was the last English king of the House of Lancaster. He succeeded his father, Henry V, in 1422, when he was less than a year old. Henry VI also was heir to Charles VI of France, who died the same year Henry became king of England. But the French disputed Henry's claim to the French throne, and so England never controlled all of France in Henry's reign. Henry was pious, educated, and gentle, but he was a weak ruler and had occasional attacks of insanity.
Henry was born in Windsor, near London. The English nobles dominated him throughout his life. The country became politically unstable as the nobles took advantage of Henry's weakness to further their own interests. In France, the great conquests of Henry V were gradually lost. By the end of 1453, the French had taken back all the land they had previously held except Calais.
During the 1450's, supporters of the House of York challenged Henry and the House of Lancaster (see YORK). In 1461, the Yorkists forced Henry from the throne and made Edward IV king. Henry regained the crown in 1470. But in 1471, Edward captured Henry and won the battles of Barnet and Tewkesbury. Edward had Henry imprisoned in the Tower of London, where he soon died. Edward probably had Henry murdered.
Update; from Queen's Official Web Site 8/10/97.
Henry VI
Henry VI (reigned 1422-61 and 1470-71) was
crowned king of England in 1429 and, in 1431,
king of France. The dual monarchy, and
accompanying French war, proved too difficult for
the king and England to maintain. The successes of
the Dauphin and Joan of Arc began to weaken his
grip on his French possessions and Normandy was
lost in 1449. Henry's cultural patronage (he
founded Eton and King's College, Cambridge) was
outweighed by his lack of interest in administration,
which alienated powerful nobles and encouraged
factionalism.
In 1453 the king became ill and the Duke of York
(a distant cousin descended from Edward III) was
made Protector. The king recovered in 1455, but
civil war between the Yorkist and Lancastrian
factions broke out (the Wars of the Roses). The
Duke of York was killed at the battle of Wakefield
in 1460 and in 1461 his son, Edward, was
crowned king, and Henry and his Queen fled to
Scotland. Henry was captured and imprisoned in
the Tower in 1465, but was restored to the throne
in 1470. His brief period of freedom ended after
the Battle of Tewkesbury in 1471 (in which his son
Edward, Prince of Wales, was killed) when
Edward IV regained the throne, and Henry was put
to death in the Tower of London.
Additional Information:
Henry was born of Henry V and Catherine of Valois in 1421. After his father's early death, he ascended the throne in 1422. In 1445, Henry married Margaret of Anjou and was given one son, Edward.
As per the Treaty of Troyes, Henry was king of both England and France, but both kingdoms were ruled by a protector during his youth. The French crown was lost when the heroic Joan of Arc appeard and rescued the French dauphin who was crowned Charles VII. The Hundred Years' War finally concluded in 1453 after several losses to French forces at Brittany, Normandy, and Gascony. Henry was left only with Calais and England.
In 1453, also, Henry fell insane due to a hereditary disease of the Valois family. Richard, Duke of York, became protector the kingdom during Henry's illness, but Henry's wife alienated him upon her husband's recovery. Beginning in full the War of the Roses, Richard attacked and defeated Queen Margaret at St. Albans in 1455. Henry was captured by Richard in 1460 and forced to name Richard as heir to the throne. After escaping, Henry attacked at Towton and was defeated.
Edward IV, son of Richard of York, was crowned king and Henry and Margaret were exiled to Scotland. In 1465 the two were captured and held in the Tower of London until 1470 when Henry was briefly restored to the throne. Henry's son Edward was killed at Tewkesbury in 1471 by Edward IV. Henry was captured and returned to the tower where he, the last of the Lancastrians, was killed the next day.

General Notes for Child Florence Martha Jenne
From Obituary:
Florence was born in Ebourne, B.C. Lulu Island, on April 15, 1902. She was the next-to-youngest of the eight children of Will and Lena Jenne, who were pioneers of Coupeville. The Will Jenne home, built in 1890 on South Main Street, is now a bed and breakfast.
Miss Jenne attended high school in Coupeville, and was a pianist for thet Coupeville Methodist church in her youth. She later attended Bellingham Normal, became a teacher and taught in elementary schools in Washington state, including Oak Harbor.
She moved back to the family home in Coupeville to care for her mother before her mother's death in 1938. She stayed there until the home was sold in 1950. She returned to teaching and then retired to Coupeville in 1972. She remained in Coupeville until June 1995, when she was moved to the nursing home in Seattle. She never married.
One brother, Carl Jenne, of Gig Harbor survives her, as well as 16 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her other siblings; Everett Jenne, Howard Jenne, Hattie Solid and Leephe Nelson(triplets), Luella Stromberg and Paul Jenne.
Florence's uncles settled in Coupeville in 1876. They first leased the Eason Ebey farm from the owner John Gould. The brother encouraged their parents to move from Illinois to Whidbey Island about six years later. Her parents later moved to British Columbia for a time, then returned to Coupeville in 1907 because they believed the schools were better. The Jennes were awarded a Washington State 100 Year Certificate of Family Residence. There are some well-written references to the Jenne family and their life in Coupeville in Jimmie Jean Cook's book, "A particular friend, PENN'S COVE." The Jacob Jenne home is also a bed and breakfast on North Main in Coupeville.
Cremation has taken place and burial will be in the family plot in Coupeville. At her request, there will be no services.
