Matthias moved to Franklin co.Ind. at a early age. In 1853Matthias &Sarah moved to Union co. Ia. to Maddens Grove,Platte twp. It is believedthey knew some families in this area. Several stories have been past downof their years in Ia. The family lived in a sod house with an open firein the center with a hole in the roof to let the smoke escape. Hogs weredriven by foot to St. Joseph Mo. to sell.
The 1856 census has them living in Lucas co. (Union twp) Also living withthem was Sarahs' mother, Nancy Sackett ,age 48 & J. P. Roach age 22.
Near the Matthias Davis family was his brother & family, William &Elizabeth
Davis ,age 36&33 with children Levi 13, Lafeyette 9 & Jackson 4.
After the Civil War the family farm was purchased. Courthouse records atCreston Ia. show that Matthias Davis purchased a farm from Joshua &Rachael Sailor with a purchase price of $360.00. This farm was just southof Kent. Nancy lived there at the time of her death. Her home for atleast 64 years.-from

Sketch of the life of Oliver P Davis who died recently at North Bend,Nebraska.
Oliver P. Davis who died recently at North Bend Ne. and whose remainswere brought to his old home near Lenox for internment was one of thepioneers of Platte township and an esteemed citizen of of that locality.He removed to Nebraska only a few years ago and will be remembered by theolder residents of the county.
Oliver P. Davis , son of Matthias and Sarah A. Davis was born in Franklincounty Indiana, November 8, 1844. He moved with his parents to Iowa atthe age of 9 years. He united with the Baptist Church at the age of 19and about two years later he placed membership in the Christian Church ofwhich he remained a faithful member until death. In 1868 he was united inmarriage to Mary S. Davis of Union county. Of this union were born sevenchildren, two boys and five girls.
He departed this life September 6 1906 at North Bend Ne. , two daughtershaving preceded him to the better land. He leaves a wife, 5 children and21 grandchildren, 4 brothers, 1 sister and many friends to mourn hisdeparture.
