Capt John Medearis Born between the Rappahanock river & Dragon Creek. Commissioned 2 Lt in the NC Continental line on April 16, 1776 Promoted to Ca pt on 12-23-1777 and stayed in the Army until 10-19-1781. Was a quartermaster. served with George Washington. Pension file in Na tional Archives S-2823 Was in NC until 1809, then land grant 384 0 acres in Tennessee, Bedford Co, now Marshall Co.......His land grant of 3840 acres was named "Liberty Valley" and still bears that name today. A historical marker commerating his Rev War ser vice stands near where his home was. Operated a large and prospe rous plantation until his death. Died at 90 years of age. Died a few days after accidently cuttin g his leg while pruning young trees in his orchard. His wife Susan died ea rlier, about 1820. John & Sarah were the guardians of Matilda Hicks Tucker.
