Victor Emmanuel I (1759-1824) ruled as king of the Kingdom of Sardinia from 1814 to 1821. The kingdom included the region of Piedmont in Italy and the island of Sardinia. Faced with a revolution in 1821, he abdicated his throne in favor of his brother, Charles Felix, rather than grant a constitution and declare war on Austria.
