Hi:
We came in a day early from the first part of our vacation because of thedire
weather forecasts, and I'm glad we did because they weren't wrong for one
time. It's cold and icy here in central Oklahoma (all across Oklahoma I
guess). Anyway, I telephoned Lois Lawson Morris last Thursday and she was
very nice and very friendly. I asked about visiting her and she askedthat we
wait until she knows more what will happen with her daughter. I certainly
understood that. We did talk about 20 to 25 minutes on the phone and as I
said she was very nice and said she, too, was excited that we had beenable to
get back in touch with our family members. She said to me somethinglike, "I
hope you don't mind me saying this but we have always thought of youfolks as
the "Lost Tribe" of the family. I certainly didn't mind. I felt as if Iknew
her as I talked to her. She knew a lot about Grandma Lawson visitingwith my
grandmother, etc. She said my Uncle Oscar came to visit her one time andhad
his wife with him. Anyway, we had a great conversation and she said shewould
keep in touch and let me know when a visit would be possible.
Following is some information from an obituary published when mygrandmother,
Annie, died. I can't scan this and I thought it would be quicker thanmailing
this if I just typed it out here....so here goes...
Funeral services were held in the Baptist church at Chandler Tuesday
afternoon for Mrs. Annie Laura DeSilver, 68, who died Friday in the homeof
her son, James B. DeSilver, Sparks.
The services were conducted by the Rev. W. I. Lowe, pastor of the
church. Burial was in Oak Park cemetery.
Mrs. DeSilver was born in Little Rock, Ark., on December 12, 1877.She
was married to James Barrington DeSilver in 1897, and the couple came to
Oklahoma in 1898, living first near Wagoner. They moved to Chandler in1906.
They were parents of seven children, three of whom preceded the mother in
death. Mr. DeSilver died on May 30, 1907.
She was converted and baptized in the Baptist church at Chandlerabout
28 years ago and lived steadily in the faith until her death. At deathshe
was a member of the First Baptist church of Sparks, of which her son,James B.
DeSilver, with whom she made her home during most of the last 15 years ofher
life, is pastor.
Survivors include four sons, James B., Sparks; Oscar T., Tulsa;Bert,
Burbank, Calif., and Frank, Alhambra, Calif.; and five grandchildren.
The four sons were here to attend the funeral.

The obiturary did not carry her death date but it was Dec. 7,1945. I
was eight years old and remember it very well. I have been rummagingthrough
old photos I was given when my mother was ill and I have at least twophotos
that we believe are of Grandma Lawson (James Barrington Lawson-DeSilver's
mother) . One has her in a photo with my mom, dad, my grandmother Annie,and
my sister Virginia, who was a baby. Another has her with two people Idon't
know. I am going to get these copied as soon as I can and send them toyou.
My sister has also put together a genological-type chart of the family aswe
knew it before last week and we will get you a copy of it.
We have all been very excited. I spent the last several days with my
sister, Virginia, and we went through a lot of old pictures and spent alot of
time speculating about how this all happened. I am still curious where
Grandpa picked up the DeSilver name. Lois seemed to think he might havebeen
interested in hunting silver and decided to be De (The) Silver. Don'tknow,
and don't guess we ever will solve that part. But thanks to you, we have
found out where our roots are and I can't describe for you how thatfeels. I
will be just as interested to hear more details as they becomeavailable. I
do want to come and visit you or meet you somewhere in the very nearfuture,
if you wish to do so. Thanks again, Butch, we are extremely indebted toyou
as well as to my daughter Debi for staying on the trail.
