   Scotland's independence was in jeopardy, and Henry Sin c l a i r the younger, son of the deceased explorer, was ap po in t e d guardian of Crown Prince James of Scotland by K in g Ro be r t III.  Henry Sinclair sailed with  the Crow n Pri nce f o r Fr ance and safety, but both were taken cap tive a nd lat e r rele ased for ransom.

   The first earl of Caithness, it is said lived like a pr i n c e . His wife, according to an old chronicler, was

served by seventy-five gentlewomen, whereof fifty-thr e e w e r e daughers of noblemen, all clothed in velvets a n d silk s , w ith their chains of gold and other ornament s a nd wa s at tend ed by two hundred riding gentlemen in a ll j ournie s'' . The y lived at Rosslyn castle.

Earl William's real claim to fame lies in the build i n g o f R osslyn Chapel in 1446. It is an architectural m ys te ry a s we ll as being a masterpiece. Its carvings ar e fu l l of sy mboli sm and of great relevance to Templar s an d t o Masons . In particular, the strange cubes, which are attach e d t o t h e under-side of the arches in the retro-choir , ha ve v aryi n g symbols on each of their faces. These sy mbol s hav e spec if ic meanings and, with the use of compu ters , we ho pe to b e a ble to determine the order in whic h the se symbo ls shoul d b e read so that we might discove r Ear l William' s coded m essa ge.
