Ada Hazel Freed, 95, of Bridgeport, died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 1995, at United Hospital Center, Br idgeport. She was born Sept. 6, 1899, in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late George Washin gton Dye and Prentha Raybuck Dye. She was a homemaker and former member of Evangelical Unite d Brethren Church. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. James (Vonda) Leuliette of Bridgeport; tw o sons, Orlan Freed of Phoenix, Ariz., and Olas Freed of Bridgeport; five brothers, Shirle y Dye of Duncan Falls, Ohio, Everett H. Dye and William Dye, both of Big Springs, and Benni e B. Dye and Ernest Jacob Dye, both of Parkersburg; two sisters, Mrs. Darius Turner and Mrs . Edward (Edith) Barr, both of Zanesville, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; an d two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Freed, in 196 0; two sons, Olen Freed and Earnest Freed; two brothers, Oral Ray and Casper Dye; and two sis ters, Orphie Hale and Olive Campbell. Services were held at Allen Funeral Home, Bridgeport, w ith Rev. John Fraser officiating. Burial was in Trinity Cemetery.

She was born in Big Springs, a daughter of the la te Rev. Sylvester and Barbara Dye Richards. She was a Protestant.Surviving are one brother , Arden Richards, and sister-in-law, Violet Richards of Belpre; and several nieces and nephew s. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Thurman Wright, in 1987; five brothe rs, Dewey, Moody, Freeman, Sylvester (Junior), and Ervin; and three sisters, Sophie Parks, El inore Richards, and Dessie McGee.Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, wit h Rev. John Smith officiating. Burial was in Big Springs Cemetery.

CHAPTER III South Fork Settled
The Dyes.--Dennis Dye was the first settler on the farm which is still designated as the "Dy e farm," in the Webb's mill vicinity, though now owned by Martin Smith and son.
Mr. Dye was the son of Reuben and Mary Dye, who came from Prince William county, Virginia, a t an early day and settled in Wood county, and he was a brother of the late D. Dye, of Elizab eth; John, of Ohio, and William and Benjamin, who started to Texas and were never heard of ag ain.
Dennis Dye was born in.1801, and came to this county in his early manhood and married Miss An na Webb, daughter of Benjamin Webb, and took up his residence on the old homestead, above men tioned, near the year 1825, where he remained until June 20, 1866, when he crossed to the oth er side.
His wife was born on July 14, 1809, and died in June, 1888. Both sleep in the Webb's mill cem etery.
His children are as follows: Benjamin, David, William, Mrs. Julia (Adam) Laird, Mrs. Jane (Da niel) Nicholson, of Calhoun county; and Mrs. Martha (Robert) Taylor, of Smithville; and Mrs . Drusilla Gear, of Wirt county; who have all passed. on; and Mrs. Harriet (Barnes) Smith, Bu rnt House; Mrs. Nancy (Jacob) Cunningham, Smithville; Mrs. Mary (Barnes) Smith, Auburn; Mrs . Agnes Haught, Wirt county: and Mrs. Elizabeth Nutter, Kansas, are the surviving ones.
Benjamin Dye, whose family are still identified with the Smithville vicinity, was born at th e old home at Webb's mill, on August 16, 1827, and though he resided across the Calhoun count y line, after his marriage to Miss Roena Petty, daughter of Rowland Petty, of Wirt county, o n January 10, 1860, his entire life was spent within the bounds of the Smithville vicinity. H e passed from earth on March 3, 1905, and Mrs. Dye followed him to the grave on May 30, 1909 . Both lie at rest in the Nicholas burying-ground, near the old home in Calhoun county.
They were the parents of the following named children: The one daughter died in childhood; an d their sons are: Dr. W. T. W. Dye, of Grantsville; Dr. James A. Dye, Minora; Rowland F. Dye , Smithville; George W. and Judson B. Dye, Freed.
