Source: 'Our Ellison Kinfolk' by Carl Grayson Ellison Allen was listed as a s tudent in the 1850 Census in Anderson County, SC. Census: 1850 County: Anderson State: SC Sex: M Age: 16 He left home at an early age and fo llowed his uncle John Ellison to Mississippi. He served in Company G, of th e 37th Regiment of the Mississippi Infantry. He was wounded and was never ab le to walk again. He never returned to South Carolina and he had a Texas pen sion. A printed item which looks like a card which might have been used at t he time of Allen's death "In loving remembrance of Allen Ellison,died Jan. 5 , 1919, age 84 years. Gone but not forgotten. A precious onefrom us has go ne, A voice we loved is stilled; A place is vacant in ourhome Which can neve r be filled. God in his wisdom has recalled the boonhis love had given, and though the body slumbers here, the soul is safein heaven." There is a CSA (Confederate States of America) marker on his grave. The following document gives us considerable insight into the Allen Ellison family: "State of Texas , county of Leon...Know all men by these presents, that we, Allen Ellison, B. W. Ellison, Wm. L. Ellison, Eugenia Wyche, Joanna Morris and Thos. Ellison, a ll of above named State and County; heirs of Elizabeth Ellison, daughter of W m. Rogers deceased, havemade, nominated and appointed, Greenlee Ellison of A nderson County, Stateof South Carolina, our true and lawful attorney, for us and in secure of M.P. Tribble, Clk. Co. Court, Anderson County, State of Sou thCarolina, all sums of money, debts and demands whatsoever, which are now d ueand owing to us, the said Allen Ellison, B.W. Ellison, Wm. L. Ellison, E ugenia Wyche, Joanna Morris and Thos. Ellison, heirs of Elizabeth Ellison...2 8th day of January A.D. 1888." The above named Ellisons appeared before G.D. H eins, Notary Public on the same day, and he acknowledged the above document. A.W. Steins, Clerk of Court, Leon County, TX, attested to the validity of th e signatures at Centerville, TX, January 30, 1888. M.P. Tribble certified th e above on 13 February 1888. The document is recorded in Volume 3-C, p. 493-49 4, South Carolina Archives, Columbia, South Carolina. The document was origi nallyrecorded in Volume 3-C, Anderson County, SC, which was the residence ofGreenlee Ellison. Elizabeth Rogers' father died about 1869 and Allen's fath er died in 1884 and the purpose of this document was to settle theseestates.
