Emmett Alexander Emberton was born at Slick Rock, Kentucky on January 19, 1908. He grew up in Barren County and left home at the age of 18. He enlisted in the U.S. Army at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana, on October 6,1926. After being moved from for to fort he arrived at Fort Mcintosh, Texas, in December 1926. He served at Fort Mcintosh in Battery A, 4th Field Artillery Battation until May of 1928, when he was transferred to Fort Robinson, Nebraska, where he was honorably discharged as a private first class on October 15, 1929. He returned to Barren County. About a year later, on October 25, 1930, he married Ruby Irene Nabors, born October 18, 1910. She was the eldest child of Berry Nabors and Nannie Belle Underwood.
On April 23rd, 1934, he enlisted n HQ, Troop, 123rd Cavalry, National Guard of Kentucky. He was discharged and re-enlisted at different intervals until he received his final discharge on June 13,1940, with the rank of sergeant. In 1940 and 41 he was employed as a truck driver for Maple Grove Dairy. In 1942 he moved his family to Glasgow and was employed by Browns Ice Cream Company. Most of 1943 he worked as a truck driver for Ford-Bacon & Davis Construction Company when the rubber factories were under construction in Lousiville, KY. He lived in his sister Evie's home at 7th and Breckinridge during the week and drove home to Glasgow to spend weekends with his family.
On December 20, 1943, he was drafted into the army and entered into active service on January 10,1944 at Evansville, IN. Again he went from fort to fort across the county to Fort Ord, Calif. and then back to Fort Dix, N.J. where on October 22, 1944 he sailed for Europe. He arrived in Liverpool, England on November 12,1944. He was assigned to company B, 638th Tank Destroyer Battalion. He saw action in France and Germany. He was wounded in Roelwiller France when an enemy motar round hit a nearby ammo dump.
He received a Purple Heart Medal for being wounded in action. Before the war was ended he was promoted to staff sergeant, the rank he held when he was discharged at Camp Atterbury, IN, on October 2, 1945. When he returned home he saw his first daughter who was born in January, 1945. From 1945 to 1950, he farmed in Barren County.
In August of 1950 he was employed at the State Tuberculosis Hospital. He worked his way up to head chef, the position he held when due to his health he retired in 1965. He died on August 10, 1969 at the V.A. Hospital in Louisville, KY. He is buried at Glasgow.
His widow still resides in Glasgow with 6 of their 10 children either living in or near Glasgow and 3 in Louisville, KY and 1 in Lexington, KY.

Eugene Edward Emberton
Eugene Edward "The Old Man" Emberton, 70, Lebanon, died at 7:23 a.m.
Dec. 22, 1999, in the emergency room of Witham Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Emberton was a mechanic at the H.O. Walker Standard service station
in Lebanon for 20 years. He then was a self-employed truck driver for 24
years, serving many clients in the Lebanon and Frankfort areas. He retired in
1992.
He attended school in Glasgow, Ky., and lived in central Illinois until moving
to Lebanon in 1955. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1951-52.
He was a member of Colfax Wesleyan Church.
He was born July 26, 1929, in Glasgow, Ky., to Clarance Edward and
Archie Ellen Jackson Emberton. He married Geneva Ward in Louisville,
Ky., on June 25, 1955, and she survives.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Myers Mortuary, Lebanon, with the
Rev. Harold Lashbrook officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Lawn
Cemetery, Thorntown. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today.
Memorials may be made to any charity.
