George was a farmer and farmed on the farm that had been his father's and grandfather's farm in Milan, Sullivan Co. MO. George moved from Milan to Flemington, Polk Co. MO.. The move was by train, and all the cow's, horse's,equipment and household items were put into box car's. They eat and slept in the box car's during the trip. George grew corn in Flemington and the last crop that he grew before he sold the farm was the largest corn crop shipped from Flemington by train. George "C" later a partner with his oldest son, Hobart, in an automobile garage in Flemington, Missouri. He was a member of "Modern Lodge #144, A.F. & A.M. in Humansville, Missouri. The middle initial "C" was used by George (not a given name by his parrnts.) "Cutharvest" was a nickname, the origin of which has not been found.

After World War II, Dean was a Security Guard at the Kansas Boys Reformatory, Hutchinson KS, police and sheriff's dept, Garden City, Finney CO, KS. and Chief of Police, Scott CIty, KS. (where he got the nickname "Chief"). He was an avid fisherman and hunter, Royal Arch Mason. Before returning to the army during WW II, he worked at the Glenn Martin Aircraft Factory in Baltimore with his brother Hobart and his nephew, Kenneth.
