Rebecca's father was William Matheny whose second cousin was JAMES H. MATHENY their common ancestor (great-grandfather) being Daniel Mathenia 11 born 1693 at Hope Plantation Stafford Co. VA.
(The following is from the Book "Matheny-Gucciardo and Allied Families" by Dolores Matheny Gucciardo)
" James H. Matheny was a life a life long friend fo Abraham Lincoln. He was an intimate acquaintance of both Lincoln's people and Mary Todd's people. In fact he was "best man" for his friend Abe Lincoln at his marriage to Mary. His fater Charles R. Matheny was licensed to preach in Crab Orchard, KY in the Methodist Episcopal Church. In 1805, he went, as a missionary to St. Clair County, ILL. IN addition to preaching, he also practiced law. Two sons were friends of Abe Lincoln. James H. was best man at Abe's wedding and Noah W. was the clerk who signed the marriage license."
Noah W. is listed as the brother of James H. in the Gucciardo book. The book "Lincoln an Illustrated Biography"( given to me by daugher Jeannie Kline) saye that Noah W. was the father of James H. Matheny. I feel more inclined to belive Delores Matheny Gucciardo is correct, having long been a Matheny Researcher.
Adopted: Tompkinsville, Monroe Co., Kentucky
General Notes for Child William Thomas Emberton
[bobspu.ged]
Known as "Uncle Tom". He drove the mail hack between Jasper and Harrison, Arkansas for more than twenty years. Was a constable in Jasper while his son Lee (Levi) was the jailer. He was the jailer at the time of his death. He died in the jail house at Jasper, Arkansas. His death being a result of Brights Disease and followed a continued illness of five months. His daughter Kate and family were living with him on the lower floor of the jail house at the time. Tava Stephens Johnson Randles said she used to hide under the stairs with her sister, Daisy, and listen to the prisoners talk. The prisoners were kept on the second floor.
When Tom was constable and Lee jailer, Lee's wife, Ona (Leona), told the story of a prisoner coming up behind her as she stood looking out of the open door. He had been arrested to marry a girl who was pregnant. He told Ona that he was escaping as he was not the father of the baby and did njot intend to marry the girl and that she could do as she liked about trying to stop him. She watched him walk away and did not call Lee or even tell that she knew what had happened to this prisoner for over sixty years when she told her daughter Genevieve Norton while they were on a visit to Jasper shortly before her death.

Levi died of of Typhoid fever the same year his son William Carroll was born. He left the family with the farm, consisting of 121 acres, thirty seven head of cattle and other personal property.
Cornelius and Rebecca Emberton, parents of Levi, came from Monroe County, Kentucky and stayed with his family for some time following his death. Rebecca and Josie did not get along. The farm did not prosper. Cornelius and Rebecca went back to Kentucky. Josie sold things off little by little until there was no living left. When W.C. was four years old they left the farm to live with Josie's widowed mother, Sarah (Grist) Brown.

General Notes (Husband)
[bobspu.ged]
m1. Alice Sally Waldrip m2. Rose Mainor"
On 16 Jan 1812, Richard R. was married to Sally Waldrick. Later that year he enlisted in the army at Glasgow, Kentucky. He was called to active duty in November 1813, and was assigned to Captain Caleb Holders Company in the 17th Regiment, U.S. Infantry. He served 18 months and was honorably discharged at Detroit, Michigan on 10 May 1815. He was 22 years old and his physical description was as follows: 5ft 5 1/2 inches tall, light hair, blue eyes and fair complexion.
He returned to Barren County, Kentucky, where he farmed and did carpentry work. He and Sally had 10 children before 1840. They had four sons and six daughters. The eldest son, David, was born in 1814. (The names of the next two daughters have eluded us, so far.)
During the 1840's, Richard R. and Sally "Allie" separated. The 1850 US Census indicates that Sally is living with her son William and four daughters and grand-daughter.
The same census has Richard R. living with Rosa Mainor (widow of Leroy Mainor who died in 1838). Richard has on son, Richard Cornelius and one daughter living with him. Also in this household are Rosa's daughter Elizabeth and her two daughters.
On 18 Oct 1850, Richard applied for 160 acres of land in Monroe County, Kentucky, and on 26 Feb 1851, it was granted.
Sally (Allie) received her divorce decree on 27 Feb. 1849.
On 1 Feb. 1853, Richard R. and Rose were married by Oliver H. Bennett, Justice of the Peace, at Tompkinsville, Kentucky.
Richard R. Emberton died at Tompkinsville, Monroe County, Kentucky on 13 Nov 1865. His first wife, "Allie", died sometime after 1850. His 2nd wife, Rose, died 20 Aug. 1878. The location of their graves is unknown, except for Monroe County, Kentucky.
Notes for Mainor
Rose on the 23rd day of March 1878 applied for "WAR OF 1812 CLAIM OF WIDOW FOR SERVICE PENSION". On March 9, 1878 the United States passed a law to give veterns of the 1812 WAR and widow's a pension. The pension was $8.00 per month and would be given to her during her period of widowhood. Rose was 79 years of age at the time.
This pension also paid for her Last Expenses:
William G. Hughes- Burial expenses of Rosey Emberton................. $2.85 Richard C. Emberton- Nursing, waiting on, and taking care of Rosey Emberton from 20th July, 1878(the day she was taken sick) till the 20th day of July, 1878(the day she died) at home.-------------------$35.00
