Sheldon was awarded the Bronze Star Metal of Honor. He was in the 173rd Airborne Birigade, U.S. army. The awarded was for distinguising himself by outstanding meritorious service against a hostile force in the Republic of Viet Nam.
At the age of 23 Sheldon passed away, after two years of illness, in a Nashville Tennessee hospital.

The Planitiff, Sharh E. Emberton, states that about 21 years ago in Apil last, she and the Deft were married in the State of Tennessee. That since that time they lived together as man and wife up to about 15th May 1887, when the deft. left and abandoned her, and has continued to remain away from her ever since. That at the time they were married aforesaid, they were both Citizens and Residents of Monroe County, Kentucky. And have been Citizens and Residents of the County and State ever since this marriage aforesaid and are citizens of the County and State at this time.
She avers and charges that she game him no offense, or cause to this trial and misuse her and his children because she says that she made him a dutiful and obedient wife, and done all she could as his wife to make this union as husband and wife pleasant- and agreeable, while she admits they were poor, and he ????. She avers she worked and labored for the support of her husband, and children and used such industry and economy. As was in her power, to make a support for them. And she says it was no fault or lack of duty on her part as his wife. That cause him to leave and abadon her with her little children to support and care for them by her self with such assistance as they could give her but she states that since his abandonment of her & his children, she has looked after,worked for, and took care of their children and is doing so at present and she chargers she is entitled to them and to have the full and entire control of them, as well, the use of their labor.
She states they have had a continous residence in the state and county for more than one year next before the commencement of this action. That her cause of action for divorce herein alleged towit: Abandoment as will a settled aversion for her accompanied by bad treatment towards her on his part occurred in this state and that their residence in now in Monroe County, KY. That her cause of divorce occurred within five years next before the commencement of this action, wherefore she comes and prays the court for a divorce and for all other general and special relief.

December 21, 1944
Silas Tite Emberton, 92 years and two months of age, died December 13, 1944, at his home near Tompkinsville. He is said to have beenthe oldest citizen of Monroe County, and never to have been further from home than Glasgow, Kentucky.
Mr. Emberton had been twice marrie. His first wife was Miss Martha J. Strode, and the second Miss Catherine Walker. Both wives and children of the first marriage preceded him in death.
The following children by the second wife survive their father. Mrs. Burl (Estella) White, this county, and Oscar, Hulet and Elvin Emberton of Tompkinsville, Edgar and Harrison Emberton of Cropsey, IL, and Ollie Emberton of Frankfort, IN. There are 26 grandchildren and 23 great-gradchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Burial was December 15 at the Brown Cemetery, with Bra. C.E. Carter in charge of services.
