General Notes for Child Jim Rich
[bobspu.ged]
Hazel Woods said she remembers going to Jim and Minnie's house, they lived in a hollow toward Ft. Run, Kentucky. She said she remembered getting butter and milk from the spring house. They lived in a big old house, it had a large fireplace and Minnie would cook in the fireplace. In the winter time you had to be pulled into the house with horses. The roads were muddy. Alot of the time you would have to stay a week or two before you were able to leave because the bad winter weather.

Fred Jones stated in a letter that he received information from his Aunt Edith that Thomas's middle name was 'Silas'.
Even with extensive searching, no record has been found to substantiate this.
It is believed this Thomas to be the son of Thomas Emberton Sr due to wills, tax lists, etc.

General Notes for Child Wiliam Hammer Emberton Judge
[bobspu.ged]
m1. Sarah Ann Hill m2. Electra \Van Wye\
William Hammer left Sullivan county, Mo. in May 1850 for the gold fields, in Califorina (Gold Rush of '49). He joined a wagon train in St. Joseph Missouri, and worked his way to California as a Teamster (driving or guiding ) of Horses or Oxen pulling covered wagons. He also served as a provider (hunter) for getting fresh meat for the entire wagon train. He reached an area north of Placerville, California, where he spent most of his mining time. He was included in the U.S. Census of 1850 for Placerville, Ca.
He Kept a leather bound day book (diary) religiously. On the left page he would note the weight of gold sut of nuggets he found that day and on the opposite page he notedthe items or supplies he purchased and the amount he paid of them. Some of the items recalled were: Boots-$35.00;Eggs-$1.00 each; Bread-$1.00 a loaf; stamps (postage)-$3.00; half a hog-$6.00. He also bought gingham (perhaps to be used for curtains and table cloths). He was evidently a religious man, as there was never an entry made for working or spending money on Sunday.
In this day there was a copy of a deed for a mine that William Hammer bought from a Mr. Shaefer. There was also a single playing card (very different than the modern day cards.)(There were no numbers on them, only spots.)
When William Hammer finally decided to leave the gold fields, he went down to Sacramento River to the San Francisco Bay. He then boarded a Steamer and sailed south along the West Coast stopping at Acapulco, Mexico, for supplies, etc. They continued south easterly along the west cost of Mexico and Central America until reaching Panama. To cross the Isthmus of Panama he rode a stage coach and rail (The Panama Canal had not been constructied at this time). He boarded a ship, went to New Orleans, La. He may have went throught Kentucky and either took the rest of the family with him or told them about Sullivan County, Missouri, until his Tomas & Charity and his brothers and sisters joined him.
The day book was given me by my Aunt Alta Electa [Emberton] Hale, since I was the eldest great-grandson working on the 'Family Tree'. It is with great sadness that I must state the diary " disappeared" mysteriously. It just took a part of the body. This was something that should have been preserved for all.
Aunt Electa all had a gold nugget brought back by Grandad Willian Hammer. She gave this to Kenneth Emberton C., since he was also working on the family line.
FROM SULLIVAN COUNTY RECORDS
I, Wm. H. Emberton, a Justice of the Peace within and for the state and county aforesaid, do hereby certify that on the 19th day of June, 1870, I jointed together in marriage Silas E. Jones Susan E. Thomas of Sullivan, Co.,Missouri.
Given under my hand this 8th day of August AD 1870.

JUDGE EMBERTON DEAD
The Funeral Was Under the Auspices of Seaman Lodge No. 126, A.F. and A.M.
William H. Emberton was born in Washington county, Va, May 25, 1830. He moved with his parents to Monroe county, Ky, when he was eight years of age, and lived there till in 1848, he came to Sullivan county, M, where he spent with the exception of three years in the west, from 1850 to 1853, the rest of his life.
December 18, 1853, he was married to Sarah, daughter of Armistead C Hill. Of this union there is one living child, Nancy, wife of E B. Wages. His wife died in August 1860. He was married again December 1, 1861 to Miss Electa Van Wye. To this union five children were born, allof whom are living. They are Lucy, George, Florence, wife of James Clark, Elizabeth, wife of Ed I. Harris and William. Judge Emberton was for many years a member of the Christian church and also a Royal Arch Mason.
He leaves a brother G. W. Emberton and sister, Mary wife of Wm. Bennett, a wife four daughters and two sons.
Judge Emberton died May 6th, 1906, at his home in Milan, age 75 years, 11 months and 11 days. Funeral services were conducted from his home on Monday at 1:00 o'clock May 7th, by Rev. J. N. Boyd. At the close of the service the Masonic lodge, of which he was a long and honored member, conveyed the remains to its last resting place, four miles east of Milan, the priate burying of ground of the family. In the death of Judge Emberton the community loses one of its most respected and honored citizens. A man of the highest sense of honor and true to his convictions. He was twice elected county judge, the first time in 1860, which office he held for six years, being the only man in the county who held the office the entire period of the war. In 1898 he was again elected to the same office and served one term. He also served for a number of years as justice of the peace. Judge Emberton had been a resident of Milan for the past seven years, having moved from the farm four miles east fo here, a part of the same farm which his father settled when he came to Sullivan county.

General Notes for Child Herbert George Emberton
[bobspu.ged]
Herbert George was on the crew of an airplane that caught fire during flight. It had been reported defective the day before and was "reportedly repaired". The crew bailed out with parachutes. Herbert George's parachute safely opened. The airplane exploded in the air, and he was struck by flying debris. He lived several days, but never regained conciousness. He was with the 65 Bombardier Squadron.
