(2) 1631: Licensed to visit hi s child re n i n Holland , but having taken up with the com pany o f mer chan t adventur ers called the Plough Company , he cam e to N ew En gland. (7b) 1631/2: Through fraud or some underhand deal i n g t h e Plough Company failed, after BACHILER had mad e pr ep arat io ns to come to New England and settle in Cam bridg e ( Newto n) . (7e) The Plough Company formed a churc h unde r BA CHILE R i n Holland, intending to settle in Ne w Town ( Cambr idge) . A s hip was chartered and freighted , but "upo n th e disast er whi ch happened to the goods o f the compan y, b y the fals e deali ng of those entruste d by us with th e Plo ugh's shi p and ou r goods therein, " all was lost an d the e migratio n delayed . The pastor' s family returned t o Englan d.
(7b) 1632: Sir Robert PAYNE, Sheriff of Hants, compl a i n e d that his tenants, "having been formerly misled b y o n e S te phen BACHILER, a notorious inconformist, did d emol i s h a con secrated chapel in Newton Stacy." (6) Whil e a t Ne wt on Stace y, BACHILER managed to incite the pari shio ner s o f Barton St acey to acts that came to the atte ntio n o f th e sheriff, wh o petitioned for redress to th e Kin g i n Counc il.
