Andrew came to America with his brother George to escape the war butshortly after America was at war. and went to Valhalla, SC in searchof clay to make china. There he married Sarah Rochester. The samesearch brought him to Sylva, NC. I was told by Odessa Jackson that Andrew came to America from Holland.The ethnic heritage is still unknown. It is thought they family wasGerman Dutch and another theory is they were German Jews escapingpersecution. I was told by Cliff Extine that Andrew 'lost' his brother whenentering the U.S. and never found him.

Darlene Powell, the granddaughter of Glen Extine related this to mein an e-mail. "As I remember my grandfather, Glen Extine, he was quite laid back.He lived to be sitting at Farout Park in Lima, Ohio., near were theylived and would fish and catch turtles. He always had a stash ofwine he kept in the cellar. I do not remember him as a drunk, but hedid like to nip and gave us kids a swig now and then to the horrorof my mother and grandmother. He was a kind gentle soul. Before hedied he came to stay with us so Mom could take care of him. At thattime their were 5 of us kids under the age of 8 years and he wasalways so patient and had time for us even though I know he was inincrediable pain. The last time I saw him was from his window on thefourth floor of the hospital and even tho his bones were crumbling hehad them help him to the window to wave to us. I always thought hewas a wonderful man."
