From the Fort Madison, Iowa, "Democrat", July 11, 1903:  "WILLIAM RITER of Sonora Township is suffering considerably from deep erysipilas of the left hand."   ("Erysipilas:  an acute, febrile, infectious disease, due to a specific streptococcus, and characterized by diffusely spreading, deep-red inflammation of the skin or mucus membranes.  ACD.)

From the Fort Madison, Iowa. "Democrat", August 18, 1909:  "Word received here yesterday of the death of WILLIAM RITER, which occurred at Mercy Hospital in Burlington, Iowa.  Mr. Riter underwent an operation for amputation of his foot a few weeks ago, but the shock, together with his weakened condition from illness and his advanced age, proved more than he could withstand at at last he was compelled to surrender to the inevitable.  Mr. Rite was formerly a well-known resident of this vicinity but has lived at Fort Madison the past few years."[Downing.ged]

Interment was at Elmwood cemetery at Fort Madison. She was born October 27, 1842, at Birchshire, Pennsylvania.  Came to Nauvoo in 1844.  Married Mr. William Riter in Nauvoo.  He died 23 years ago.
