!Born, probably in Augusta Co., VA on the 297 acre portion of Robinson property bought by father in 1746. Went to Prince Edward Co. with family in 1765, aged 11. Then to Montgomery (now Wythe Co.), VA in 1773, aged about 19. Inherited parents 327 acres on Sally Run, waters of Reed Creek, with brother, Samuel, 1779. Had already staked out 1000 acres on Dix River (now Garrard Co., KY); moved there around 1781. Last child, Jefferson, born 1805. Moved on to Orange Co., IN about 1811, where he lived until his death. Revolutionary War soldier. Jehu Stevens Co., Montgomery Co., VA militia, late 1770's; on roll of Capt. James Downing's Company of Militia in Lincoln Co. and fought Shawnees (General Rogers Clark), October - November 1782. Finley Cemetery records say he fought at Battle of Cowpens (family tradition). !Before their immigration to KY, the Matthias Mounts family lived in Bedford County, VA. Elizabeth's sister, Mary (Polly) married Moses Collier. From KY Court Records, "10 February 1781 - Polly Collier and Betsey Finley state that their father was killed on this date. James Alexander of Mt. Sterling, KY deposes that Matthias Mounce was killed by the limb of a tree. He was brought to Downing's Station." A suit was brought by Moses Collier and Polly, his wife and David Finly and Betsey, his wife against Henry Mounts, saying defendants father died intestate in 1781 (Garrard Circuit Court Book 1:407). Elizabeth is buried in Finley Cemetery (DAR, Lost River Chapter, Orange County Cemetery Records, Orleans, p. 224).

Wife, Elizabeth and two children David, and Elizabeth Ann followed him in death within the next 15 months. According to Pearl S. Wilson, records searcher in Paoli, this was the time of a Cholera epidemic in the upper Lost River. Brother Cyrus was first appointed guardian (Washington County Probate Book ??:85, 12 November 1832); then brother-in-law, Joseph Maxwell, became guardian 10 February 1835 (Washington County Probate Book 6:242).
