General Notes (Husband)
Uncle John was a wonderful easy-going man, about 6'5" tall, who could play the piano, accordian, and I guess any musical instrument. We visited them in Brewton, AL many times, and spent vacations together in Bon Secour, AL, as well as in Palm Beach,FL, where they had rented a house for the summer in about 1935. He died prematurely.
General Notes (Wife)
Aunt Louise was a sweet lady who lived most of her life in Brewton AL where she was the matriarch. She developed a thyroid condition which made her very heavy. She had a great sense of humor, which seems to have been passed on to all the Fitzpatricks.
General Notes for Child John Lithew Jernigan Jr
John L. and I overlapped a year attending Marion Military Institute at Marion, AL which is about thirty miles from Greensboro where Dad was raised. It is also in Perry County, the location of Scott Station where T.Benjamin and Lucy Paull were married and where Uncle Paull was born. Address:(205)867-5614 Brewton, AL
General Notes for Child William Knox Jernigan
We were at Marion Institute for a couple of years together. He fought in both theatres in WWII, suffering the loss of most of one hand. He died as a young man from sarcoma of the mandible.
General Notes for Child Paull Fitzpatrick Jernigan
Paull followed me at Marion Institute.

General Notes (Husband)
11/19/1857 Parents married in Greene County AL. 8/9/1863 Born in Greene County AL, the third of four children. His father died before he was seven years old, and he was raised by his mother with the help of other members of his family. In 1867 Greene County was divided into Greene in the west and Hale in the east. Greensboro is the seat of Hale County, Eutaw, of Greene. 8/29/1895 Died in Greensboro AL, buried in the Presbyterian graveyard in Newbern AL, although he was said to be a devout methodist. Quote from the "Greensboro [Alabama] Watchman", September 26,1895. "Death of Mr. T.B.Fitzpatrick
'Someone is resting from sorrow and sin.
Happy where Earth's conflicts enter not in;
Joyous as birds, when the morning is bright;
When the sweet sunbeams have brought us their light.
Weary with sowing, never to reap;
Weary with labor and welcoming sleep.
Someone's departed to heaven's bright shore;
Ring the bell softly, there's crepe on the door.' It became our painful duty to chronicle the death of Mr. T. Ben Fitzpatrick of Akron, Ala., which sad event occured in Greensboro on the night of Sept.22nd at eleven o'clock. His age was thirty two years. He had been in a low state of health for several months past and came to Greensboro about three weeks ago suffering from the yellow disease. His numerous friends here sincerely hoped that his disease would not prove fatal, and did all in their power to add to his comfort , but all to no avail. Death came and relieved him of his pain. There were many tears shed by strong men who had known and loved Mr. Fitzpatrick for years past, when his death was announced to them. No young man of our acquaintance was more widely known, and universally liked than Ben Fitzpatrick. He was upright and honorable in his dealings with his fellow man, true, generous and every inch a gentleman. Though he held most responsible and onerous positions as Agents for the A.G.S.Railroad, the C.S.&M. R.R., Postmaster, telegraph operator and express agent at Akron, he was never so busy that he could not return a civil and polite answer to anyone who desired information of him. That same sunny genial disposition won for him a great host of friends, and the agent at Akron was known far and near as the cleverest to be found in the land. He was a man of fine business qualifications and did the work of two or three ordinary men with the utmost of ease and good nature. He was also well informed on the current events of the day, and a man of considerable literary attainments, having familiarized himself with the writings of the best authors. His death was a real loss to Hale County and a most severe blow to his wife and five children, mother and sister(Mrs. D.W.Ward) who have the tenderest sympathy all in their hour of great bereavement. The remains were taken to Newbern, the old home, for interment, followed by a number of Greensboro friends and others." [More was there, but I wasn't able to get it. W.K.F. General Notes (Wife)
!BIOGRAPHY: "After Papa's death, Mama assumed the responsibilities of father and mother. At the age of 33 with no previous business experience, she built the first telephone exchange in Greensboro, and operated it from 1895 to 1908, when she sold it to Southern Bell, and moved to Birmingham with her five children.There is much I could tell, but I will wait until a late date, still I am wondering how she did it, with little capital and no experience, but she had many substantial friends among the business people of the town who were always ready and more than willing to help her with her problems. [Notable among these were members ofthe family of her husband's sister, the Wards...W.K. F., Jr.] I will of course start with the Richard Hooker Cobb's family, Dr. Cobb being the Rector of St.Paul's Episcopal Church." (Dad's Notes)
She moved to Birmingham with her five children in about 1907 and started a nice boarding house there. Aunt Louise worked at Loveman, Joseph and Lowe, a department store. Uncle Paull worked for a grocery store.
She moved to Atlanta, GA with W.K.Fitzpatrick, Ward and Paull in about 1915. I don't know where she lived, but the picture of the Fitzpatrick children with their spouses was taken about the time of her death in Dec., 1924, according to Jane Jernigan Fitzpatrick when I talked to her tonight( 7/1/1991).

General Notes for Child Isabelle Louise Fitzpatrick
Aunt Louise was a sweet lady who lived most of her life in Brewton AL where she was the matriarch. She developed a thyroid condition which made her very heavy. She had a great sense of humor, which seems to have been passed on to all the Fitzpatricks.
General Notes for Child Paull Fitzpatrick
Uncle Paull helped with the telephone exchange in Greensboro as a boy. Later when Lucy took the family to Birmingham, he worked in a grocery store. He ultimately became the president of a bank in Detroit, and was a 33rd degree mason.He died without having any children.
General Notes for Child William Knox Fitzpatrick
Place: Moved to Birmingham AL with his mother and siblings; Moved to Atlanta GA with his brother, Ward
Spouse: Harriott Thomas
BIOGRAPHY: Dad was the one who was responsible for getting me interested in genealogy.. I think it was his lifetime hobby. Mother was also interested, as was Aunt Gladys Whittington Thomas. Dad's interest might have sprung from the fact that his father died when he was only five years old, and apparently he did not know who his Grandfather Fitzpatrick was.
He spent most of his life in Atlanta, GA, living at 1007 Belleview Drive, then at 1088 Rosewood Drive in northeast Atlanta. He was a manufacturer's representative for electrical appliance companies, notably the Silex Co., Hamilton Beach and several others. He was a gregarious, honest, sensitive man with a quick temper, but who didn't hold a grudge. He had a great sense of humor. He also had a strong sense of loyalty, especially to his family. He shared the usual biases held by most southerners of his time, particularly those who lived in Sherman's path during the Civil War, or War Between the States, as it is called in the south. General Notes for Child Thomas Ward Fitzpatrick
Uncle Ward was the handsomest of the Fitzpatrick brothers. He left Atlanta GA for San Diego CA as a young man, and did very well in real estate there as well as in insurance. He married four times, the first and third times to my aunt Mable Roy. Nancy was about eighteen years his junior.
