 John Foster served during the Revolution as a Captain in L ieutenant Colonel Harry Hampton's Regiment of South Carolin a Light Dragoons. He was wounded at the battle of Hanging R ock, and was paid "one grown negro" for his service.  DAR a pplications #557496 (Mary Elizabeth Hurt), #82106 (Miss Bla nche Moore), and #92949 (Gertrude Foster) are based on desc endancy from John Foster.

Instead, he se nt money by his brother-in-law, William White (wife of Henr y's sister Ann), to purchase land for him. When Henry cam e down later, he found William White had purchased land i n his own name. Henry went to Spartanburg County, South Car olina, where he settled on Fairforest Creek and raised a se parate family of Fosters.
