Individual note: Called the Recorder's Office, Athens County Courthouse on 10/7/93 and Jaynie Pidcock faxed me a copy of the Grave Registration Card for Hiram. Date of birth and death different than we had gotten off the tombstone in NYE Cemetery, but it was very hard to read. He enlisted on January 18, 1862 and was discharged October 28, 1863. He was a 2nd Lieutenant in Company E, 1st Regiment, West Virginia Volunteer Calvary.
The historian at Gettysburg verified that the West Virginia Volunteer Calvary, including Company E, 1st Regiment fought in this battle. Couldn't say for certain that Hiram was there, but his pension file/military records should confirm this fact.
