   --Born February 28, 1757, in Charleston,  the son of Dr . William Joseph Allston and Marianna Porcher Smith. Marrie d, first, Mary Ashe in 1777; second, Mary Brewton Motte, Fe bruary 24,  1791.  During the Revolutionary War, captain ,  then colonel under General Francis Marion. About 1792 changed hi s name from "Allston" to "Alston." Justice of peace. S.C. H ouse of Representatives, All Saints', 1781-84 (declined ele ction in 1784). S.C. Senate, Prince George's, Winyah, and A ll Saints', 1787-80; All Saints', 179I-94, 1810-14. Justic e of quorum.  Presidential elector. Large planter; lived a t  "Clifton" plantation, where President George Washingto n visited; later removed to "Fairfield'' plantation. Tax co llector.  Delegate to State Convention to ratify Federal Co nstitution,  from Prince George's, Winyah, 1785. Died Jun e 26, 1839, in Charleston.

 ALSTON (Allston), William (Father of Thomas P. and Josep h Alston; grandfather of Charles Alston; granduncle of Jose ph W. and R. F. W. Allston), Senator from combined Parishe s of Prince George, Winyah, and All Saints, and from Paris h of All Saints.
   --Born February 28, 1757, in Charleston,  the son of Dr . William Joseph Allston and Marianna Porcher Smith. Marrie d, first, Mary Ashe in 1777; second, Mary Brewton Motte, Fe bruary 24,  1791.  During the Revolutionary War, captain ,  then colonel under General Francis Marion. About 1792 changed hi s name from "Allston" to "Alston." Justice of peace. S.C. H ouse of Representatives, All Saints', 1781-84 (declined ele ction in 1784). S.C. Senate, Prince George's, Winyah, and A ll Saints', 1787-80; All Saints', 179I-94, 1810-14. Justic e of quorum.  Presidential elector. Large planter; lived a t  "Clifton" plantation, where President George Washingto n visited; later removed to "Fairfield'' plantation. Tax co llector.  Delegate to State Convention to ratify Federal Co nstitution,  from Prince George's, Winyah, 1785. Died Jun e 26, 1839, in Charleston.
