Thomas Orville (Arville) Galyean was a farmer who ra i s e d a pples, berries,nuts, and all kin d s of fruits f o r t h e larg e fruit industry that was inNorth West Arkan sa s . Hi s firs t son, F ra nk, apparently died as aninfa n t o f a bra in hemm orage.
He was the son of Alex Galyean, prominent farmer and b u s i n ess man.Thomas was born near Hiw a sse and spent pr ac ti ca ll y all his life in thevicinity of his birth an d dea th . H e w as wel l k nown and well liked andwas cou nted a s o ne o f th e best and most successful of the youn ge r fa rmer s the n i n Hiwasse. He was married to Gertru de Maso n o n 3 April , 19 12and to them fi ve chi ldren we re born.
He was converted and united with the Mt. Pleasant Ba p t i s t Church on 8December, 1921 and rem a ined a memb e r o f t h e church until his death. Heled a quiet, modes t , Chri sti a n life and spe n t time visiting the sickan d n eedy, m inis te ring to them to his full ability. Educa tio n w a s a prima r y concern for him and he made sure hi s ch ildren wer e wel l e ducated.Chester, hi s o ldest liv ing s on was neve r abse nt f rom school for eightyears.
Thomas was a strict man and demanded much from his chi l d r e n. After hedied of a goiter (pos s ibly throat can c e r ) i n 1930, the family had tofend for itself in the m id s t o f th e Great De pr ession. There were manytimes w he n t he f amil y only had nuts and wild animals to eat. T h e y s o onmi grate d to California where the family work e d in th e frui t orchar dspicking orange s and o ther fru it . Ever y chil d became su ccessful inlife. She first married Oliver Cowger. They had five chil d r e n t ogether. Oliver died in 1897. In 1902, she met a n d m ar rie d Alex McCall Galyean who was a widower with e ig ht c hil dren . Aunt Fanny became a mother to them, givi n g the m th e sam e loving care and devotion that she best ow ed o n her c hildre n. In addition, five children wer e bor n t o her an d Alex. A lex died in 1940. She remaine d a wi do w for 6 yea rs, then m et and married William McG rady wh o d ied in Decem ber 1951.
Aunt Fanny's life was an example of Christianity a s i t s h o uld be lived. She was very even mannered, neve r cri tici ze d , was patient and long suffering. She love d to h ear G od ' s word and served Heavenly Father faithfu lly. T owar d th e e nd of her life, she looked forward t o meetin g he r Lor d an d Master with a calm, steadfast fa ith."
