House of Representatives, Prince George's, Winyah , 1844-58; speaker, 1848-50. S. C. Senate, Prince George's , Winyah, 1851-58. Member of Nullification Convention of 18 32-33 and of Secession Convention of 1860-62 and signer o f Ordinance of Secession. Trustee of South Carolina College , 1848-89. Member of Episcopal! Church.
