Eahlmund or Alemund or Edmund, son of Eafa. "A.D. 784. At this time reigned Elmund King in Kent, the father of Egbert; and Egbert was the father of Athulf (Aethelwulf)." Ref. (ASC 784, 854). ARSC 1-12.

General Notes for Child King Egbert Egbert Of Wessex

[royalty.ged]

Egbert b. 775, d. after 19 Nov 838, son of Eahlmund, King of Kent. Egbert was King of Wessex, 802-827, and was the first King of all England, 827-836; m. Raedburh.
Egbert laid the foundations for the ascendancy of Wessex among the English kingdoms. At first an unsuccessful claimant to the Wessex crown, he finally became King in 802. Egbert defeated the Mercian King Beornwulf at Ellandune (825) and briefly (828-29) held the kingdom of Mercia itself. He was also recognized as King in Kent, Surrey, Sussex, and Essex and received the nominal submission of Northumbria. The later years of his reign were marked by frequent Danish raids on England. The male line of kings descend from him to Edward the Confessor and the female line to the present time.

Ref. (Asc 800,823,825,827,828,836;NSE,X 209-210;Searle, 342-43). (See:Harold W. Smith, Saxon England, Gens. 9-13. This ref. omits Cutha (1-6) in early portion of pedigree.). Also see Ref: Academic American Encyclopedia.

The death of Egbert looks like it took place in 839, as there are many ref. refering to his reign from 802-839. "Egbert dies leaving a greater Wessex 839". King Egbert of Wessex has died, ending a 37-year reign in which he reshaped

General Notes for Child Joseph Ben Matthat Of Arimathaea

REF: "Britannia Internet Magazine": Joseph of Arimat h e a w a s a wealthy disciple of Jesus, who, according t o t h e boo k o f Matthew 27:57-60, asked Pontius Pilate fo r pe rm issio n t o take Jesus' dead body in order to prepa re i t fo r buri al . He also provided the tomb where the c rucif ied L ord wa s la id until his Resurrection. Joseph i s ment ione d in a fe w tim es in parallel passages in Mark , Luk e and J ohn, but n othin g further is heard about hi s late r activit ies. Legend , howe ver, supplies us with t he res t of his st ory by claim ing tha t Joseph, accompany ing th e Apostle Phi lip on a prea ching mi ssion to Gaul , was sen t to Britain f or the purpos e of conve rting th e island t o Christianity . The year 63 A D is commonl y gi ven for thi s "event", wit h 37 AD sometime s being put f o rth as an al ternative. It w as said that Jose ph achieve d hi s wealth i n the metals tra de, and in the cou rse o f conducti ng hi s business, he prob ably became acquain te d with Britai n , at least the southwe stern parts of it . C ornwall wa s a chi ef mining district a nd well-known i n th e Roman em pire for i ts tin and other m etals. Some h ave eve n said t hat Joseph wa s the uncle of J esus, and t hat he ma y hav e brought the youn g boy along o n one of h is busines s tri ps to the island. I t was only na tural, t hen, that Jos ep h should have been chos en for th e firs t mission to Brit a in, and appropriate that h e shoul d co me first to Glasto nbu ry, that gravitational cent er f o r legendary activit y in th e West Country. Much more w a s a dded to Joseph's l egend dur ing the middle ages, an d he w a s gradually infla ted int o a major saint and cul t hero. F o r example, he i s said t o have brought with hi m eithe r a cup , said to ha ve been us ed at the Last Supp er and al so used t o catch t he blood dri pping from Chris t as he hun g on the Cr oss . A variation o f this story i s that Josep h brought wi t h him two cruets, o ne containi ng the blood a nd the othe r, t he sweat of Christ . Eithe r of these item s are know n as Th e Holy Grail, and w er e the object(s) o f the quest s of the K nights of King Ar t hur's Round Table . The legen d goes on t o suggest tha t Jose ph hid the "Grai l" in Chal ice Well at Gl astonbur y for safe -keeping. Ther e is a wid e variance of sch olar ly opinion o n this subject , however , and a good dea l o f doubt exists a s to whethe r Joseph e ver came to Bri tain a t all, for any p urpose. RE F: "Brita nnia Interne t Magazine" : Joseph of Arim athea wa s a wealt hydiscipl e of Jesus, wh o , according to t he boo k of Matt hew 27:5 7-60, askedPontiu s Pilate for permi ssio n to tak e Jesu s ' dead body in orde r toprepare it fo r bur ial. H e als o provided the tomb wher e the crucifie d L ordw as la id u ntil his Resurrection. Josep h is mentione d i n a fe w tim es inparallel passages i n Mark , Luke and Jo hn , bu t not hing further is heardabout his late r activitie s . Le gend , howeve r, supplies us with the rest o fhis sto r y b y cl aiming that Joseph, accompanying the Apostl e Ph i l i p o n apreaching mission to Gaul, was sent to Brita i n f o r t he purpose ofconverting the isla nd to Christia nit y . T he y ear 63 AD is commonly givenfor this "event" , wi t h 3 7 AD so metimes be ing put forth as an alternati ve.I t w as sa id tha t Joseph achieved his wealth in the m etal s tr a de, an d int he course of conducting his busine ss, h e pro bably beca me a cquainted withBritain, a t leas t th e southw estern part s o f it. Cornwall was a chiefmin ing d istrict a nd well-know n i n t he Roman empire for it s ti n and otherm etals. Some ha v e even said that Josep h was t he uncl e o f Jesus, and that h e may have brough t the youn g boy al ong on one of his busi ne ss trips toth e i sland . It was on ly natural, then, tha t Jos eph shoul d have bee nchosen fo r the first missio n t o Britai n, an d appropria te that h e shouldcome first t o Glastonbur y , that gravita tional cen te r for legendaryact ivity i n the W est Country . Much mor e was added to Joseph' s leg endduring t h e midd le ages, an d he was gradually infl at ed into a majo r sain tand cult he ro. For example , h e i s said to have brou gh t with him eit her acup, sai d to hav e been used at the La s t Supper a n d also used t o catch the blood dripping fro m Chr ist as h e hung on th e Cross. A vari ation of th isst ory is t hat Jo seph broug ht with him two cr uets, one cont aining theb loo d and th e other, th e sweat o f Christ. Eit her of these i t ems ar e knownas The Holy Grail , and wer e the object( s ) o f th e quests of the Knights ofK ing Art hur's Round Ta ble . Th e legend goes on to suggest th a t J oseph hidthe "G rai l " in Chalice Well at Glastonbur y f or safe-keeping. Th e re i s awide varianc e of scholarl y opi nion on this subj e ct, how ever, and a good deal of d oubt ex ists as to whe the r Josep h ever cameto Britain a t all, f o r any purpos e.
