Dr. Calvin Snook, a practicing physician of Fairfield Township, Jefferson County, Iowa, His boyhood days passed aneventfully upon the farm, but not wishing to engage in agricultural pursuits he began fittinn himself for the medical profession. He completed his literary education in the city of Fairfield, after which he entered the college of Physicians abd Surgeons of Leokuk,Iowa and having mastered the regular course of study was graduated from that institute in the class of 1869. One week later he had established himself in practice in Moulton, Appanoose County, Iowa, where he remained until the fall of 1870, when he removed to Peru,Kan., continuing practice in that place until the spring of 1872. He then returned to Iowa and locating in Perlee, Jefferson County, announced to the public that he was ready to receive patronage from any in need of service in his line. He there built up a good practice and continued business in that place until 1879, when he came to Fairfield, where he has since resided. Almost from the first he won recognition as an able practictionerof this section.
The Doctor is a Democrat in his political views and has held a number of offices. For two years he held to office of Councilman, for one year, served as a member of the School Board and in the spring of 1890 was elected to the same position for a term of three years. For eight years he held the office of City Health Commissioner, and for four years, under Cleveland's adminishtration was pensioner examiner. He is connected with a number of medical societies, including the Jefferson County Medical Society, the Des Moines Valley Medical Society, and the Iowa State Medical Society. In connection with his professional labors, Dr. Snook is engaged to some extent in stock-raising and farming with his brothers, one of whom carries that business in Cedar Township, Jefferson County, while the other is engaged in the same line in Nebraska. They were reared to work together in harmony and since attaining to mature years have always done more or less business together with great satisfaction. The Doctor has been quite succesful in the practice of his profession and is well deserving of the liberal patronage accorded him. He is studious and keeps himself well posted on all the discoveries and theories connected with the science and is the acknowledged peer of any of his professional brethren in the county.

From the book, "Dowell": "d. 21 Feb, 1984; Ingestion of termite spray. The last time I saw and talked with him was two weeks before his death. He was terribly ill, had just gotten out of hospital and told me it was due to having his home sprayed for termites. The exterminators did not tell him to cover food, dinnerware, etc., and he went right in the house just after they had sprayed and unknowingly used these items which were unprotected resulting in poisoning. His appearance that day was shocking - color of skin - affect it had on his eyes, etc. As he pulled out ou drive, I thought he's not long."

Platt was a ticket agent for the New York Central Railroad. After heretired he worked at a funeral home in Kendallville. He died of a heart attack, had gone downtown and got a flat tire crossing the railroadtracks. He died there. He was a small man with pointed features and redhair. No one else in the family had red hair until Eric and his children.

Elva was very pretty when she was young. She had naturally curly hair.She grew up in Crow Wing, MN. She loved flowers and had a large gardenin the back of her Kendallville, IN home where she supplied flowers to awholesale florist in Ft. Wayne. She lived alone for many years afterPlatt died. She had a stroke about ten years before her death, went toEldon and Ida's for a short time after the hospital, but they couldn'tcare for her and she went to a nursing home where she remained for about10 years. She became more and more senile until she couldn't rememberanyone. She finally died of a massive urinary infection.
