BK 445 ROBERT A GOULD was born Jan. 15, 1930, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of George W. and Mary B. (Robinett) Gould. Soon after that he and his family moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana. They only lived there a short period of time and then moved to Nappanee, Indiana, where he grew up and went to school. Even as a small child Bob was interested in hunting and fishing and even started trapping when he was nine years old. To him this was a great sport, plus a way to earn his own spending money. He also worked the muck fields, weeding carrots and onions, topping carrots in the fall at 5 cents a crate, mowing lawns and shoveling snow besides being employed by the Cheese Factory, Farm Bureau Co-op (the feed mill and coal supplier) and B&O Railroad. The entire family (George, Mary, Bob, Paul and Glen) moved to Elkhart, Indiana, where Bob had already been working for Schultz Trailer Manufacturing. In January of 1952 he entered the Army and did his basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky. (He said that it is a great place to be AWAY FROM. It was 80 degrees when you wake up in the morning and they never played anything but Country Music.) In 1953, Bob spent the entire year stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany, with the Armed Forces. There he was in Vehicle Maintenance and assigned an Army truck. (I think the Autobahn Highway became the Indianapolis 500 Speedway. M.E.G.) Some of his friends also had trucks. They would creep up the mountains about 20-30 miles an hour and speed down the other side at 80-90 m.p.h. (Oh well, so much for army life!) In 1955, Bob and I (Myra E. Ritchie) got married and lived in Elkhart, Indiana, until 1956. It was then that we moved to Edwardsburg, Michigan, at 21764 Channel Parkway - Juno Lake, where we've lived ever since. Our three children were born within the next four years. Bob spent a lot of time fishing and hunting after we came to Michigan. Northern Pike and Bass were his special summer catch, but ice fishing for Blue Gill and Perch were his favorite hobby. We started deer hunting the first fall we were in Michigan. We hunted up in the Baldwin-Iron area and he has hunted there almost every year since. After a few years I gave up the hunting. Try as hard as I did, hunting was not my idea of a "fun day"!!! In 1960 he killed a Black Bear in the Upper Peninsula near Wakefield, Michigan. He has hunted moose, deer, and bear in Canada, has gone elk and deer hunting in Colorado and gone elk, deer and bear hunting by horse-back in Montana where he killed a nice Bull Elk and Buck Deer. He has killed a lot of deer in these hunts and missed a lot also. I could write a whole book on Bob's hunting and fishing, but I'll let you off with only one good story. One fall he was hunting about one mile east of our house and had a doe license. He shot a small doe. He field dressed the deer and started for home with it. Coming through the woods he ran into a big buck that someone had killed and left lay. So he hid his little deer and took the big one and brought it home. Then he went back to get the little one. But, it was gone. About ten years later he was talking to a guy about hunting. The fellow said "One year they shot so many deer on my place that they just left them lay! I even found one that someone had gutted!" The moral to the story is: next time, take both deer at the same time!!! Bob has also had some bad times in his life. In 1962 he suffered an aneurysm in his head. He had surgery at Robert Long Hospital in Indianapolis. He was on the operating table for 12 hours. The aneurysm was three inches back in the center of his head. It ruptured while they were getting to it in surgery. He was given 10 pints of blood then and there and 2 pints later. God came into that hospital and brought him through that awful ordeal. Even the doctor said, "Someone bigger than I, you can thank for this!" Well, we did and, 24 years later, we still do!!! Some of our interests are; mushrooming, going out to eat, gardening, traveling, and spending time with our grandson, Michael. We have taken quite a few trips with our family to the south, west, northwest and to Canada. One year we came home from Banff all the way across Canada to Ontario. Bob likes to go to Alabama (my home state) near the Tenn. line. He especially likes to hunt ducks with my cousin on the Tenn. Valley Authority River bottom. He can tell some good stories about those experiences. Bob has been a cement mason (finishing concrete) for 30 years. He has worked for all of the major contractors in the Elkhart and South Bend areas. He has helped to lay down a lot of sidewalks and floors for buildings. (All of us have walked on those floors at some time or other. M.E.G.)

General Notes for Child Sherry Ann Gould
[bobspu.ged]
BK 471 SHERRY ANN (GOULD) KLINE was born Jan. 20, 1959, the daughter of Robert A. and Myra E (Ritchie) Gould. She married Michael D. Kline Sr. on Sept. 8, 1979. (Divorced) To them a son was born, Michael D. Kline Jr. on Jan. 28, 1981. She was a 1977 graduate of Edwardsburg High School, and she attended the Elkhart Area Career Center for one year for secretarial/clerical training. She was a member of a local 4-H club for 3 years with the horse and two foals she raised. In 1974 Sherry was chosen as Cass County Champion English Hunt Seat Rider and her horse was also chosen as Cass County Champion English Hunt Seat Pleasure Horse. In 1975 she was Cass County Reserve Champion. Also in 1975 & 1976 she was chosen as K&K Valley Champion in Western Horsemanship riding a Paint Stallion that she trained for a local horse farm. Sherry spent most of her time at the farm riding horses from the time she was 12 years old until she was 18. There she learned all about breeding, breaking, training, grooming, foaling, feeding and riding. She started showing horses at the age of 13 in such events as: Western Pleasure, Horsemanship; English Pleasure, Equitation, Hunter/Jumper over fences, Halter and Showmanship. She started training horses for different people in the Edwardsburg area at 16 and now works part-time in the evenings training at Just Buster's Stable in Elkhart, Indiana. On Sundays she teaches riding lessons there. For the last two years, Sherry has worked full-time as Office Manager/Bookkeeper for an Elkhart Van Conversion Company - Van Tique, Inc. She would rather train full-time but the winter weather keeps her from keeping busy all year round. Sherry's other hobbies are sewing a lot of her clothes, bowling (she has a 170 average), writing poetry, drawing, photography (outdoor scenery and animals), playing the piano, lifting weights (she started lifting at the age of 14), water skiing and sunbathing in her speedboat. All of these activities would only happen when she isn't at a horse show, or 4- wheeling in her pickup truck. She takes a lot of pride in doing things that most women would never be able to do. She remodeled her basement. She built her own tack box for 4-H. She helped to re-roof and shingle her house and our shed with her dad. And, she loves to show- off handling an unruly horse when someone else (especially a man) is having a rough time! Since graduation, Sherry has worked at a variety of jobs. A partial list would be: taking care of Charlie Judd's (Judd Drugs) Arabian horses, running saws, building cabinets, produce manager, driving tow-motor, managing a trucking warehouse for a GM distributor, to secretarial work. In the spring and fall she delivers vans for the Van Tique company. She drives all the way to New York or Virginia by herself. She makes the trip over the weekends, just to travel and make extra money. Her son, Michael enjoys riding horses, boating, swimming, fishing, and playing ball. Grandpa Bob educates him on the different kinds of fish. Grandma Myra educates him on the different kinds of snakes and how to kill them! He can take you on a tour through the garden and tell you what everything is named. He is six years old and is in kindergarten at Edwardsburg Schools. He has made his mom very proud of him because he has become quite the little equestrian already!!!
